We had a great time with the Kathie, Cat, Dave and his friend. Such friendly and hospitable people. Kathie is so thoughtful and dedicated to her animals, she has a heart of gold. Cat and Kathie even caught a python (it had got into the house) and brought it us so we could see it, which was really thoughtful and was appreciated.
The work we did
… read more included smashing pumpkins and feeding them to the pigs (great fun); weeding; cleaning. We juggled the tasks with the heat so tended to weed in the morning when it was cooler, and did the cleaning (kitchen) in the late morning. Belly rubs/feeding the piggies - any time of day.
We stayed in the large belle tent on a comfortable double mattress. The toilet tent was across the field and we were way too scared to walk across the field in the dark to the toilet tent. 😂 We improvised!
There’s a shower in Kathie’s house. Though we’d tie showering in with a visit to Tenterfield and use the ones at the fabulous swimming pool so we could have a swim and chill by the pool. It’s a really nice and cheap pool - $2 a visit!
There was a BBQ to cook on and Kathie provide some pots and pans etc, and some food stuffs too.
The sanctuary is not the Hilton, all the money goes into the animals. If you stay you are with nature.
At the sanctuary we loved watching the sunrise and the wallabies and Roos springing around. I even saw a joey run to its mum and climb into her pouch which was amazing. It was so chilled there.
The sun sets and sun rises were lovely.
We took a car - we definitely recommend that It gave us the ability to go and explore surrounding areas like Tenterfield with its museums, cafes, shops, etc. A smallish town but packed with things of interest. Google it and visit it. The train museum is one of the best in the world, and there more places to see!! Henry Parkes delivered his federation speech there! They also have an annual Gravel and Granite festival.
The national parks and surrounding area is just beautiful.
Thank you Kathie and co for a memorable experience.

I had a great time volunteering with the pigs here. Kathie is an absolute superstar! Everything she does is for the pigs and every donation she gets goes straight into improving the sanctuary for the animals - so obviously, as with any sanctuary, don't expect luxury living conditions!
The sanctuary is tucked away in a very pretty spot, and I saw
… read more a lot of Aussie wildlife out there. Perfect for those that love nature!
You’ll hardly ever come across anybody more passionate about what he/she does than Kathie. She absolutely dedicated her life for the well-being of the pigs. She puts all her energy (and lots of love!) into her pig sanctuary and really works hard everyday to keep it up and running.
We stayed for 5 nights and helped where we could: we cleaned up
… read more the paddock, made bonfires, cooked meals and were bellyrubbing heaps of lucky pigs.
We had a little caravan for ourselves where we had a little privacy if we wanted to. But we were welcome to use her bathroom, kitchen and living room to hang out and chill if we felt like it. It’s pretty simple and rustic but functional. Kathie is very uncomplicated and easy to be around with, very straightforward, friendly and absolutely compassionate about what she does. I loved the fact she’s vegan so it made the situation in the kitchen easier for all of us.
If you love animals and don’t mind roughing it out this is the place to go! We wish her all the strength and support she needs to keep the sanctuary running, it’s a blessing for all those poor pigs in need.Comentarios

Buster and Hester were wonderful to have around for a week. Super easy going, self motivated and could see what needed doing and just did it. They really helped me out, with smiles all the way!
