Hi I'm Shaun, an artist and curator living in the Sabina with my dogs, ducks and cats.

    ---------------

Currently looking for male or female to share a property with another workaway from 24th August for stays of around two weeks to a month - shorter stays might be possible

    -------------

The property here is a rustic farmhouse and is in the process of being renovated with one space being developed at a time. While I'm either working on my art or occasionally travelling I require a hand or two to take care of the animals, general maintenance and gardening/agricultural work.

I require individuals who can be responsible, the work is looking after the animals but the general tasks here will be cleaning and maintenance in the properties and occasionally gardening, using a strimmer etc.

If I am travelling there will be a "House sitting" work schedule with light duties such as pet care, gardening and cleaning.

For the purposes of clarity regarding the workaway agreement, construction or tradesperson work is not required and nothing contributing towards earning as a rental space will be asked from workaways who are unpaid.

The workaway agreement is stated as -

Food supplies provided for 3 meals a day with 25 hours work per week

Super easy to get here, the train is on the Fiumicino/Orte line that goes from the airport through Rome and to the Sabina so you can get to Rome or the airport directly from a Sabina station, Poggio Mirteto or Gavignano.

    *Constantly changing situation 🙊🎊🦄

    ------------

What's very important to me is first and foremost a responsible outlook because the animals require care and left with a workaway if I travel, anyone who changes plans last minute could have a serious impact!

    🐕🐕🐕

The Sabine hills or the "Sabina" is one hour north of Rome, easily accessible by trains that go from Rome and even the Fiumicino airport via Poggio Mirteto or Gavignano Sabino stations

We are set above the town of Torri in Sabina

This property is a vegetarian household - apologies but it's necessary that the cooking areas and fridges are not used for meat!

Of utmost importance for me is reliability as I have schedules for construction and often the the animals here are completely reliant on the workaway help when I am travelling, also at the moment I have injured my back further limiting my abilities 🐒🌄🐒

There may a whole house (The Pink House) available for the stay - workawayers will share a house, or be in the property where I live if the Pink house is full

*important - the property does not have WIFI so helpers will be expected to have their own data or be happy to use HOTSPOT downloads when available

There is a bike or two available for use, it should be beared in mind hills are demanding but it's a great way to see the area

    -------------------

I'm building a series of art studios in the Sabine Hills one hour North of Rome by car or train. The studios provide a residency for artists to visit and use in the form of an award where the facilities and time spent will be free for chosen groups and individuals. I have a large plot of land with olive trees and walnut trees

All animals are very friendly, Vincent is a sensitive but energetic dog, Jaco always following Vincent, Bella is my cat and now there's new cat trouble - Tony. There are 2 ducks - Frank and Sienna 😊

My property is situated just above the town of Torri in Sabina, it's incredibly beautiful.

10 minutes drive in one direction takes you to the small hill town of Vacone which takes it's name from Vacuna the Sabine goddess of leisure after work and where the word vacation comes from. There lay the ruins of one of Horace's villas and an ancient woodland. 10 minutes in another direction takes you to either Cantaloupo or Casperia, beautiful hilltop towns and near the ruins of one of Cicero's family homes. We are very close to Rocchette where there is a castle and waterfall to explore and also near Vescovio which is fantastic for honest food and wine. In fact, almost everywhere in the Sabina is reasonable for food and drink.

The people here are very friendly and there is so much to explore, whether in the Sabina or on a visit to Rome. The main benefits of staying here are of a quiet and beautiful location with close proximity to sights of nature and history.

Should you want to experience the baroque splendour of Rome or do nothing more than drink wine in the hills, this location is a delight.

As a busy artist who often travels I require reliable helpers who can aid in tasks such as organising and cleaning, taking care of the animals needs, walks feeding and of course plenty of cuddles.

  • Alojamiento

    Alojamiento

There is a nice sunrise facing double room with balcony in the house available for a workaway individual. Like most of the houses in this region, the heating is wood stove and workaways will be expected to make use of this during the periods necessary

    * fantastic views/location, a good plot of land and a great roof terrace

    Algo más...

My land is linked to other plots and makes a nice walk. This area is really amazing for trekking or hiking and the views are to die for. There are far too many historical site nearby to list but if you wish to go a little further - 40 minutes drive will take you to Cascata delle Marmore while a cheap train journey of an hour will take you into Rome itself. To take the train you must first arrive at either Gavignano, Stimigliano or Poggio Mirteto, all of which are around a 15 minute drive. It's my recommendation that a car is hired to see all this area has to offer although there are buses from the town to the train stations.

You will find this area, like much of Italy, has delicious food and drink to offer - try a selection of locally made liquors from nearby restaurants and you will be glad you did so.
Vacone and Configni are great places to see the area from a height and driving to Montasola to catch the sunset is worthwhile - there is also a great restaurant there!

Casperia is a popular destination, 10 minutes drive away, where you will find a couple for wine bars, a great view and a friendly reception. Casperia is one place you are most likely to meet foreigners who have been seduced by the Sabina. Americans, Canadians, Dutch and English have exchanged their busy lives abroad for the communal and jovial environment of this beautiful town.
