    Welcome to my place!
Bonjour! I am Clemence and I would like to invite you to spend some time on my family farm enjoying the pleasures of the French countryside and helping me with light gardening and beautification projects. You will live with me in my historic stone farmhouse next to our private pond. Mornings will be spent in the garden, and afternoons and evenings you are free to explore the region. There are bicycles to cycle around the nearby farmland and into the historic nearby village, Breval, and local buses take you to nearby attractions such as Vernon, la maison de Monet etc... There is a direct train from Breval to Paris taking 50 minutes.

We are also hoping to make large changes to the farmlands and farm buildings. There are three buildings on the farm: 1) the current farm house, modernised on the inside for current living, 2) an old house that was once lived in many years ago as the main home on the land; it has now been cleaned of its old furniture, and requires a lot of work, we hope to turn it into a green house to grow seasonal fruits and vegetables, 3) lastly, another old building which we now use as a garage to house tools and random pieces of old furniture, it also has a room for staying in.

With this in mind, we are also looking for people that can help us with renovating the second old house and make minor repairs to the others. There are cracks in the old stones, and it would be great to have opportunity to gain knowledge from a Workawayer on how we can repair them. Additionally, someone with permaculture/gardening experience would be amazing; we would love to gain some knowledge on how we can start growing fruits and vegetables sustainably and using the resources already available on the land. We would love to share knowledge as much as possible, and I would love to learn more about the medicinal properties of plants. Overall this is a project of creativity and sharing in all forms, I am happy to learn and give direction where possible. The renovation projects would be a an open discussion on what is possible!

We are always getting up to stuff on the farm and I normally welcome multiple Workawayers, and so it is a very sociable and fun environment!

I would love the opportunity to share this project and my goals with you!

    About the farm
The farm is a half-acre property in the region of Neauphlette, consisting of three historic farm buildings and a private pond. It is full of flora and fauna, including a frog choir in the pond, pheasants and other fowl, and the occasional deer. My family purchased the farm in the 1920s. My godfather, Guy, who is now over 90 and lives nearby, grew up in the farmhouse. At the time, the house had an earthen floor and it was heated from a wood stove with an outhouse and no running water. Originally it was a working farm, growing cereals, raising animals and making grappa from the fruit of its orchard. Today, its rustic charm and tranquillity are being preserved under a multiyear renovation project. The tradition of the historic French stone architecture is maintained, but modern comforts such as indoor plumbing and electricity have subsequently been installed.

    About me
I am Clemence, a Frenchwoman living on my family farm, and dedicating myself to the “zero kilometre” movement of sustainable living. I grew up nearby and then pursued a career in international business in Italy for many years. In 2015 I inherited the farm and have been restoring the buildings, maintaining the gardens, and creating a natural paradise according to my values of local and sustainable living. I speak English, French, and Italian.

You will have half-days during the week and the weekend free. The farm is a relaxing place to read, draw, meditate, exercise, and relax in nature. There are benches and soft grass around the pond to daydream. The house has a comfortable, glassed-in veranda with beautiful views of the pond and surrounding trees, so that nature can be enjoyed even if it is raining. The farm is surrounded by further picturesque fields for a walk, jog, or bicycle ride. You can visit the nearby village of Breval on foot or by bicycle, and local buses can take you to Paris, the main city around, nice walking around. I can teach you some French or Italian.

Projects schedule: We will do tasks together for four hours each weekday (Monday-Friday) in the garden. Typical projects include weeding, skimming much off the surface of the pond, mowing the lawn, stacking wood, and doing other simple “beautification” projects. No especial skill or strength is required, just an appetite for spending time outdoors surrounded by nature! On the morning of your departure, we will clean the house together.

For individuals with permaculture, architecture and construction experience; there will be an open discussion about the potential work you can do to help contribute towards renovations! Please do get in contact if this is something that you are interested in!

You will stay in my home on the farm, a small renovated stone farmhouse. Each volunteer will have her own sleeping pallet in shared rooms. There are two toilets and showers, a fully equipped kitchen, and a lovely veranda with views of the pond. The house has heating, running water, and other modern conveniences. Sheets, blankets and sometimes towels are provided.

Local amenities are about a 30 minute walk, or 12 minute cycle away. This includes boulangeries and supermarkets! The rolling fields and old houses make this a beautiful place to take peaceful walks in. So there is plenty of chance for adventure!

Read, meditate, walk, museums, organic shops, some farms around, brocantes etc Paris is well deserved by bus and train approximately it will take one hour.

What to bring: Bring comfortable clothing suitable for engaging in outdoor gardening, including closed-toe shoes suitable for wet grass and light mud. A sunhat and raingear are advisable. The temperature can be chilly at night, so bring layers of clothing to stay warm and night and cool while doing tasks under the sun. Bring your own personal toiletry items as well as a towel. Due to the small dimensions of the shared rooms, it is recommended to pack lightly. (A washing machine is available for volunteer use.) The farm is a wonderful place to relax and to be inspired, so bring your book, yoga mat, journal, sketchpad, or other light creative materials!

Transportation: Transportation to and from the Breval train station at the beginning and end of Workaway is provided by me, Clemence, in my personal vehicle. There is a direct train from Paris to Breval taking approximately 1 hour. While staying at the farm, two bicycles are available for volunteers to use. The nearby village, Breval, is 10 minutes by bicycle and 25 by foot. Local buses lines have stops in front of the farm servicing the villages of Breval, Neauphlette.
