Hello and welcome to our profile!
We are a self-organized, anti-speciesist initiative that began in 2013 in Belgium and later expanded to Greece. Our action started as a grassroots effort, transporting food, medicine, and supplies from Belgium to Greece — items donated or nearing their expiration date. These deliveries were made using a small van, which functioned like a "doggy bag" — a large package filled with anything that could be used to support animals.
At the same time, we also worked to find permanent homes for non-human animals and organized their safe transportation both within Greece and abroad.
Our action includes:
-Providing aid to animals that have been abused or abandoned.
-Finding permanent homes or offering foster care for rescued animals.
-Covering veterinary expenses.
-Organizing solidarity events focused on animal rights, veganism, and anti-speciesism.
Today, we are working to build a shelter where animals in need can finally find safety and care.
But we can’t do it alone — we need your help to build this sanctuary from the ground up.
We have a beautiful plot of land, spanning 24,000 square meters, full of potential and possibilities. It's located in a mountainous area at 500 meters altitude. It’s a peaceful place surrounded by nature, just a 15-minute drive from the beach and close to the beautiful city of Nafpaktos.
The project is still in its early stages — everything began from scratch, as the land was (and still is) pure wild nature. We moved to the shelter in June 2024, into a caravan that we renovated and insulated, and where we also installed a wood stove for heating. So far, we’ve fenced half of the land and installed a solar panel system, but we’re still waiting for the building permit that will allow us to gain access to water. Since we currently have no direct water connection, we transport water every two days using our van, stored in tanks and bottles. During the winter, we collect rainwater for plant irrigation, and we also have a well that provides water for gardening.
How the shelter is supported:
We’ve chosen not to accept funding from the state or the European Union, as we strongly believe in a world rooted in mutual solidarity. Our main source of financial support comes from the solidarity bazaars we organize or take part in every month in Athens. These events are also supported by artists who sell or donate their creations to benefit the shelter. At our bazaars, we offer vegan food, animal liberation merch, second-hand clothes, and more. In addition to the bazaars, this project is supported by online donations and independent events organized by others in solidarity with our cause. Any remaining costs are covered by the core members who surround and sustain this project.
Who are we looking for?
Volunteers are welcome to support us in many ways — from animal care, construction, and gardening, to general maintenance around the shelter. We especially appreciate people who are independent, take initiative, and are eager to share ideas that help the project grow and flourish. Everyone is encouraged to contribute their thoughts and suggestions regarding daily tasks. We believe in collective participation, where cooperation and mutual respect create a meaningful and empowering experience for all. We don’t want to act as “bosses” or give strict orders — our goal is to create a space based on mutual respect and shared responsibility. However, to ensure the shelter runs smoothly, some basic rules must be followed.
During the summer, the heat can be intense, so we adjust our schedule to work efficiently and safely.
We split the day into two work periods: from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and then again from 6:00 PM onwards.
It’s important that everyone sticks to this schedule, as repeated delays disrupt the flow and fairness of the work.
We share dinners together and take the time to discuss the next day's tasks. You don’t need to have special skills or be an expert with tools to visit the shelter, but we do need people who are open to learning.
Daily tasks:
Daily tasks, such as cleaning, cooking, changing the compost toilet etc, are organized in a circle-style format so everyone can contribute. You’ll be guided through the daily tasks and receive a thorough introduction from the residents and fellow volunteers. Once you’re familiar with the routine, however, how you spend your time here is entirely up to you. Some of the dogs are always free to roam within the shelter, while others are released at specific times, as not all of them get along. For safety and health reasons, other non-human residents are not allowed to roam freely, so you’ll need to be comfortable offering dog walks on a leash. Additionally, some of our dogs follow a vegan diet, so we need help cooking for them every two days.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Even before this project, we always loved working in an autonomous way where everybody learn from each other. No one has to prove anything to others and knowledge comes every day by listening and looking to another being that already knows. We have a lot to learn from others as much as me have a lot to share with you.
We love DIY, cooking vegan, and being active for the animals in many ways.Ayuda
Our Next Goals Include:
Fencing various zones to welcome more animals and build safe shelters for them.
Building DIY infrastructure, including a second cooking and dining area, a pergola, storage facilities, and living spaces for non-human residents.
Clearing the land of dead trees left by the fire that devastated the area three years ago.
Creating dedicated areas for rescued pigs, FIV-positive cats, chickens, and bunnies.
Designing a permaculture plan for long-term ecological sustainability.
Establishing vegetable gardens to support self-sufficiency.
Renovating our new caravan for the volunteers.
Building a cat playground to enrich the lives of our feline residents.
And much more — we’re always open to new ideas and contributions!Idiomas hablados

For the moment, we can host people in our second caravan, in tents, or in their own equipped vehicles.
We provide basic facilities including compost toilets, both outdoor and indoor showers, a fridge, a washing machine, and a gas-powered kitchen.
Accommodations are simple for now, but we're improving things every month.
We have solar panels and a generator for electricity.
If needed, we can provide tents and sleeping essentials such as mattresses, sheets, and pillows for those who don’t have their own gear.Algo más...
At the shelter, we strive to create a safe space for both animals and humans. We do not support the idea that animals are food, products to be bred, slaughtered, or consumed for profit, or used for any other purpose.
We have zero tolerance for all forms of oppression. Sexist, racist, ableist, homophobic, transphobic, or speciesist behavior will not be tolerated here.
The shelter is a human-vegan space, and during your stay, you will be expected to eat only vegan food and use vegan and cruelty-free products.
We also maintain an alcohol- and drug-free environment to support those who are working to overcome addiction.
We provide breakfast, a collective cooked meal, and access to shared food for preparing your own snacks. Water is free.
For any additional snacks or beverages, including coffee, a collective donation box is available.
You’ll have access to the kitchen, indoor and outdoor showers, fridge, washing machine, and shared chill spaces.
We can drop you off and pick you up from the beach when we’re heading out with our car. However, if you’d like to explore the area on your own, you’ll need to hitchhike, rent a car, or use the bus. During the summer, the bus schedule is quite frequent, especially since popular tourist spots like Delphi are nearby.
If you need any further information, feel free to ask! If you’d like to apply, please be clear and specific about your skills, needs, and the type of work you're comfortable with. Before your arrival, you’ll be asked to fill out a form and have a video call with us so we can get to know each other better..Un poco más de información
