Welcome to Amselsmühle – A Place Where Dreams Continue
Sometimes life changes in ways we could never have imagined.
Over the years, our dream has been shaped by both joy and loss. We have had to say goodbye to people who should have been part of this journey, and some dreams have taken a different path than we once envisioned. But giving up was never an option.
My name is Franziska (38), and I live here in Hungary with my daughter Rosalie (11). For the past four years, we have been living in a mobile home because the old farmhouse is in urgent need of restoration. Step by step, we are bringing this beautiful place back to life, and that's why we love welcoming people who don't just want to travel, but who want to become part of a real and meaningful project.
Amselsmühle is not meant to become a farm of forgotten dreams. It is a place where new dreams can grow—through honest work, respect, animals, nature, and people who enjoy creating something that will last.
    Life on the Farm
A small river flows through our land, surrounded by old fruit trees, meadows and woodland. Our family includes rescued horses, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, rabbits, cats, dogs and fish.
We grow a large part of our own food using biodynamic principles and continue developing the farm every year. In our greenhouse we raise young plants, our worm farm produces rich compost, and every season brings new ideas and new projects. Last year we harvested tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkins and many other vegetables, all grown in soil that we build ourselves with patience and care.
Our vision is to continue restoring the historic farmhouse, create new gardens, preserve old fruit trees, replant the forest, improve our barns and paddocks, and eventually build unique accommodation for future guests. Like everything else at Amselsmühle, these dreams will grow one step at a time.
    A Typical Day
Every morning begins with the animals. Feeding and caring for them is part of everyday life, followed by breakfast and fresh homemade bread from the kitchen.
Depending on the season and your interests, you might help with:
feeding and caring for our animals
    gardening and growing vegetables
harvesting fruit and caring for trees
    building and restoration projects
    fencing, paddocks and barns
    greenhouse work
    tree planting and forest restoration
    creative projects around the farm
Our small team consists of me, Rosalie's father ( who is occasionally around) my brother, our employees and volunteers from around the world. Everyone has their own responsibilities, and we appreciate people who enjoy working together, take initiative and are happy to become part of our daily rhythm.
    Learn Something New!
If you enjoy learning, there is always something new to discover here.
You can learn about horses, go riding, take our goats or dogs for a walk, learn to drive a tractor, help during hay season or gain experience with agricultural machinery. If you enjoy practical work, you can also join our building and restoration projects and experience how a historic farm slowly comes back to life.
We believe everyone arrives with something to offer—and everyone leaves having learned something new.
    Sharing Life Together
Good food and community are an important part of life here.
Fresh homemade bread is part of everyday life, and we usually share dinner after a day's work. We enjoy cooking with seasonal vegetables from our garden and meat from our own farm. Vegetarians and vegans are, of course, just as welcome.
If you prefer to cook for yourself, that's absolutely fine too. There are cooking facilities, nearby shops, and we're always happy to organise a grocery trip together.
On warm summer evenings, we often relax by the river or cool off in the swimming pool after work.
    Accommodation
Our volunteers stay in a cosy camper beside the river, complete with its own little terrace, compost toilet, garden shower and fenced outdoor area. It's a wonderful place for anyone who enjoys a simple life surrounded by nature, and it's also suitable if you're travelling with a friendly dog.
One of our dreams for the future is to create several unique guest accommodations around the farm. Perhaps you'll even help us build them.
    Our Philosophy
We are not looking for perfect volunteers.
We are looking for kind-hearted people who love animals, enjoy working outdoors and appreciate structure, responsibility and teamwork. Farm life works best when everyone respects each other, helps where needed and takes pride in doing a good job.
Amselsmühle is not a finished place.
It grows with every person who leaves a small piece of their heart here.
Maybe you'll stay for just a few weeks.
Maybe you'll leave with more than memories.
And maybe you'll become part of a story that proves some dreams are simply too important to give up.
If that speaks to you, we would love to welcome you to Amselsmühle.

A typical day on our farm starts with feeding the animals – a task where our full-time staff is always happy to receive some help. Those who enjoy working with animals can spend time caring for them, taking them for walks, milking, or simply bonding with them. If gardening is more appealing, there’s plenty to do, from creating new garden beds and raised beds to helping build a historic bakehouse.

In our greenhouse, we have a large, semi-underground water basin where our silver crucian carp live. Here, we are setting up an aquaponics system and growing young plants. Last year, we cultivated sweet potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes, potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, chili, pumpkins, kohlrabi, and Swiss chard – all grown in soil we develop ourselves using manure composted in our worm farms.
We also plan to build more enclosures and barns and plant many trees to restore the forest, which has suffered greatly from years of neglect.
Beyond daily farm work, there are many opportunities to learn new skills. You can learn to ride, try your hand at blacksmithing, or simply help out in the areas that interest you most. You can also learn to drive a tractor, operate ( and repair) the machinery that makes our hay bales, or even try your hand at driving an excavator if you’re up for it! Everyone is welcome to get involved in their own way and become part of our farm life!

If guests would like to share meals with us, our motto is: what’s mine is also yours. The guest accommodation has storage and cooking facilities, so everyone is free to prepare their own meals if they prefer. We are happy to supply you with groceries or go shopping together.
