We are a Family of 5: that grow our own produce for Family consumption as much as possible.
Mum, Dad and 3 teenagers Boys along with our 2 Dogs Chloe & Penny we all live in Rural County Kilkenny.
Mum a trained Chef, Grew up on a Family Dairy Farm In Co Laoise as did My Husband in Co. Galway.
We enjoy working outdoors and benefiting from the fruits of our Labor.

We are using AgroEcology Principles along with Regenerative Farming & Permaculture Practices, on our smallholding including a 2 acre Syntropic Agroforestry ( 10 Acres of land in total )
Currently we do not produce produce for Sale. Surplus produce is used by us and Volunteers.
(Having returned to education late in Life to Study Horticulture My first Love.
Became fascinated with Soil and the complexity of the Life contained within.
Several Books and courses Later I stumbled upon Syntropic Agroforesty and its uses in the Improvement of Plant Health, Soil fertility and pest Control and Microbiome.)

We decided to spring into action 2 Years ago(Winter 2023) to began the Journey with Ecology Land Survey, which I did Myself.
After studying the land Topology, Plant and Water Fall over a 12 Month Period, came up a Plan on how to adapt water management system on the land creating Ponds to hold onto water to aid our crops and the prevention of flooding further along the way with neighboring lands.
Ponds help with Pest control and Pest Management and in general add to the interconnectivity of the Ecology and Biodiversity on our smallholding.

We are practicing AgroEcology Principle in Temperate Climate:
To put it simply growing beyond Organic using zero Chemicals.
Utilizing Ecology and Plant management to enhance the ability of the Soil and to restore the Soil to a state of "Abundance" of Cropping.

There are 4 Phases of this Syntropic Agroforestry Principle:

    1. Placenta,
    2. Placenta 1,
    3. Accumulation
    4. Abundance.

In the 2 Acres of Syntropic Orchard:
We Planting over 100 Fruit and Nut (Heritage and non Heritage) Trees.
In these Syntropic rows many different varieties of Fruit and Nut Trees were planted,
i.e. Walnut, Cobnuts, Sweet Chestnut, Cherry, Apples, Pears & Plums, Honeyberry, Jostaberry, Worchester Berry, Blackberry, Raspberry. Blackcurrant and Gooseberry. Rhubarb.
Along with Willow, Alder. Hazel, Birch and more and more as the weeks progress.

Other activities carried out on Our smallholding include:

-Dry Stone wall building to create additional habitat for Biodiversity and Ecology Interconnectivity.
-The "100 Million Tree foundation" planted over 5200 individual Native Irish Tree as a Biodiversity Woodland of the Future.
-Created 2 Ponds for Wildlife & Biodiversity.
-Vegetable Garden and Green house, we grow Potatoes, Garlic, Horseradish, Onions, Strawberry, Tomatoes,
    Carrots various Herbs this Year.
We have received Trees form various donated and paid sources, Tree of The land, Free Trees Ireland and Hares Corner,
    None so Hardy.
We recently had the good fortune of having an Ecology Survey carried out here with "Hares Corner" which yielded very positive results on Biodiversity side.

We are Nature, Syntropic, Ecology, Biodiversity Enthusiastic growing as much of our own food where possible.
If You Guys would like to learn and contribute to our smallholding, we would be delighted to Share and learn along the Journey with You Guys too.
Please know we are at the beginning Phases of this Syntropic Journey Placenta going into placenta1.
It can take several years to reach Phase 4. Abundance

If this sounds like something You Guys would be interested in Learning and sharing with Us.

Kilkenny City is over 400 years old, but it sure doesn’t show its age.
