Helllo! My name is Crystal and I run a 7-bedroom family hostel/guesthouse in lovely Hualien, a town surrounded by the mountains and the sea, on the East Coast of Taiwan. We're just a 2 minutes walk away from Hualien Train Station, and close to 7-eleven and Family Mart, several cheap restaurants, cinema, gym, farmacy and anything else you might need.

Our guests can relax and sip some Taiwanese tea in our living room, while resting from a day spent exploring the lush countryside or the spectacular natural attractions our county has to offer, including Taroko National Park, Qingshui Cliff, the beach at Qixingtan or the Farglory Ocean Park, among others.

We are welcoming one or two nice volunteers to join our family for at least a couple of weeks and help us with general cleaning and reception work, while also having the time to explore Hualien at a slow pace.

We are very dedicated in sharing with our guests and helpers all we know about our home Hualien, and Taiwan.
Please feel right at home and make the most of your stay by chatting with our guests and fellow volunteers, and count on us to help you explore the beautiful nature that surrounds Hualien.

Also, let us know if you're learning Mandarin or Taiwanese and please, share what you love about Taiwan and some interesting things about your own language, culture and country of origin.

We feel very strongly about our Taiwanese traditions and especially about tea, so you can learn a lot about that with us, too!

Help is pretty simple and mostly consists of cleaning up the bedrooms and bathrooms after guests check-out, while making sure all areas are clean and presentable. Helpers will also be responsible for doing check-ins and check-outs.
Additionally, please give us any necessary assistance in managing/translating our online profiles (half an hour of your time will probably be enough!). Most of our guests are Taiwanese natives so if you're looking to practice your Mandarin/Taiwanese then here is the perfect place to come.

There is a morning shift from 9am to 11am (check-outs), and an afternoon shift from 1pm to 5pm (cleaning and check-ins).
Depending on the number of helpers (1 or 2) and on the number of guests, we'll work out your schedule.
Help will be 4 hours per day.

We will accept volunteers staying and helping us for at least 10 days, though we really prefer if you can stay 2 weeks or more. We provide a very comfortable and spacious room as accommodation which both our helpers share, and a daily allowance of $50NT to help with food expenses (on working days).

It's easy to find some cheap restaurants nearby, where you can have meals of noodles/rice/soup ranging from $50 - $100 NT. If you're up for something a bit classier or western then there's also a range of restaurants like Italian, Japanese, burger bars and so on which normally cost around $170 - $230 NT.

Helpers will be sharing one of our very spacious guest rooms, containing two very comfortable double beds, air-con, fan and a kettle. Bathroom is shared as well. There are no other guests on this floor.

We provide water and tea, and a daily allowance of $50NT to help with food expenses (on working days).
There's no kitchen, though you'll be able to use a small electric stove.

    There's wi-fi on all floors.

    Algo más...

It's easy and convenient to walk around Hualien. Hualien is small enough to be peaceful, clean and a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of a city like Taipei while also being big enough to have everything you need. With plenty of food stalls around you'll never go hungry. Here in Hualien, you can walk from the mountains to the ocean in about 30 minutes so whether you prefer hiking or surfing or want to do both then Hualien is the right choice for you!

Like to watch the stars at night or be in awe at the grand mountains of Taiwan? Then take a venture to our rooftop where you have some unprecedented views of the nearby mountains as well a rather undisturbed view of the skies.

While the city itself is fairly small, most things are spaced out and sprawl for quite some distance so it would be ideal to get yourself a scooter or a bicycle.

Most Hualien residents speak little English and depending on who you are this can be a blessing or a curse. If you're looking to improve your Mandarin/Taiwanese through immersion then you can't go wrong here. On the other hand, if you don't speak it and can't manage not being able to communicate then think twice about coming here. It's not the people of Hualien's responsibility to learn English for you so don't get upset and blame the people here when you can't have a decent conversation.
