Hi, my name is Mary. I am mature womyn with 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren who occasionally visit. My partner is here some of the time. I homeschooled my children when they were young and we grew a lot of our own food, including animals for meat. Later in life I went back to school and now I work full time off-farm as a social worker and have almost completed my Masters in SW. I live with 2 elderly horses and 2 mini horses, 4 cats, 1 old duck, 9 chickens and 2 Guinea hens. I am interested in community living, fibre arts and facilitating horse therapy. I would like the person(s) living here to enjoy living and working with horses and the land. The horses are gentle and wise. The land is fertile and high energy vibrations. There are fields and forest filled with wildlife and edible mushrooms. Hay comes off one of the fields each year. Old apple trees offer wonderful fruit each year. There are oodles of wild nettles to eat in the spring. I work a good sized garden, hot beds and berries. There is lots of space for someone(s) to create their own gardens for personal or market use. A local beekeeper has hives on the land. No chemicals are used on the land.

There are spinning wheels and looms available if you are interested in learning fibre arts. Also lots of yarn for knitting/crochet projects/learnings. I will be leading horse therapy sessions here. The area is gorgeous and close to nature. Beautiful sandy beach with warm waters for swimming 2km away. Access to a sea kayak. If the person wants to work part time and/or doing distance education, there is space to accommodate that. You can enjoy having your own gardens/projects.
I am looking for someone who wants to stay at least 4-6 months. I live with 2 horses, 2 mini horses, 4 cats, 9 hens, 2 Guinea hens and one old duck. I work full time away from the farm so am looking for someone who wants to live here and help during the day while I'm away - for Monday to Friday (weekends off, unless a project is happening). There is a lot of independence here and the person(s) should be able to work alone, be self-motivated. There are also 2-4 times a year when I go away for 7-14 days and then they would be totally responsible for the animals. There about 2 hours of barn work each day so there is the expectation the person(s) would help with seasonal projects including; helping with haymaking, putting firewood in and stacking, gardening, some lawn mowing, fencing, building projects, sanding or painting etc. I don’t keep a schedule but as a guide I would expect the work to be, on average, about 20 hours per week labour, for example, 4 hours a day/ five days a week. I am very open to anyone(s) who want to have their own projects with market gardening, animals etc for their own economic/heart gains. This is a gorgeous/sacred space and would love to see someone working with it for their lifestyle goals.
Person(s) would have their own room in a large farm house. There are two bathrooms in the home - one with a large bathtub, the other with a nice shower. There is the option to have two large rooms in the basement with its own entrance and deck. Basic foods would be provided. This is something that could be explored together. The person(s) would cook for themselves (unless we agree on a different arrangement). Basic bulk cooking supplies, laundry and toilet supplies are provided.
I am open to having individuals, couples and families.
The home is a large farmhouse so there is lots of space. The animals here are family members. Sometimes my partner is here, or my granddaughter (or both) and occasionally my grown children visit. I am a quiet person. The environment is relatively quiet with lots of natural sounds - owls, coyotes, peepers, wind in the trees. I would want the farm help to feel very at home and this includes having friends or family visit. I am not into loud partying on a regular basis. There is no smoking in the home - and any smoking has to be away from the home so that it doesn't blow in windows (and contained). I practice traditional yoga and nature based spirituality and am very spacious for others to practice what they wish.
Daily responsibilities include the following, Monday to Friday: The schedule with the horses varies depending on the season and my work schedule. We may share the feeding of the horses. In the winter, the schedule might be that he person would feed the chickens, horses at 8 am and move the horses and ponies as needed; feed horses again at 12 pm and move and feed them again around 4 pm. These times can be flexible at times but this needs to be worked out with me. The volunteer(s) is also responsible for cleaning the stalls, putting in sawdust bedding, and bringing down hay bales from the loft, making sure horses have enough water. During the winter there will be other daily chores such as feeding the wood furnace, shovelling when necessary and cleaning ice out of stall buckets on longer work days.
