We are looking for seasonal help, usually May through September each year, when things are more quiet, less tourist activity, to help us with preparing for the rainy season and sprucing up the property in preparation for the next upcoming high season which is from October/November - April. Exact dates are flexible.

We often encourage Workaway couples to join us, but solos are also considered and valued. There can be needs for cleaning and room-prep, also computer projects and tech help, but work usually includes hands-on painting and fix-it projects, also help outdoors managing plants/trees/yard, then helping to organize. A familiarity with tools and even aspects of construction is valuable to us. It would be the minimum work each day, with much time left over to learn Spanish, surf and enjoy our beautiful Pueblo Magico (Magic Town) - surf town/fishing village - Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico. We encourage month-long stays.

We operate what we fondly call an arts/nature retreat, especially welcoming international visitors and practicing artists. We are a couple, both of us are poets and and also artists, who love to dance and are very interested in music and ourselves are international. I am a dual US/UK citizen and Martin is Mexican. We have lived in Sayulita for 20 years.

There is much opportunity to learn Spanish or practice speaking it if there is already some familiarity with the language. Sayulita is a culturally diverse village, but also very traditionally Mexican. The food tradition, Mexican cuisine, is there in abundance. We live in Mexican neighborhood and there is much opportunity to speak Spanish and to interact with friendly locals many of whom are very interested in learning and practicing their English. The town is still very traditional with many festivals and events which are exclusively about the culture and traditions.

As described in the introduction, we have a small hostel, a "nature getaway" arts retreat, in the beautiful, Pacific coast surf/beach/fishing village of Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico. We need help with cleaning/maintenance, some room prepeand general chores and gardening. We live in a Mexican neighborhood and have a good relationship with the families and neighbors around us. There is plenty of opportunity to interact with our friendly and kind neighbors and townspeople, many of whom are eager and open regarding language exchange. Sayulita is a Spanglish speaking town.

Not frequently, but we do sometimes have guests arriving and there is a need for prep work prior to their arrival, laundry and just quick easy daily maintenance and help making sure everything is running/operating smoothly.

Other than that there is plenty of leisure time to enjoy the area, great restaurants, surfing, the beach and many of the amazing and interesting locals that make the village such a fun destination. It's a rich and diverse cultural area, with many traditional aspects of Mexican life in full bloom. It's an international town with people representing many countries and cultures, but predominantly traditional Mexican families who are the mainstays of their traditions and who are the town leaders.

There is opportunity to learn or practice Spanish. There is a Spanish language school, many yoga studios, live music and night life, frequent events and festivals, a turtle sanctuary with frequent new hatchling releases, many surf competitions, Cumbia dancing and music every Friday night on the beach, etc. It's a foodie town with an array of traditional Mexican restaurants and taco stands and also international cuisine, It's still a traditional town with much local color and interest, very artistic with many musicians, writers, artists and a weekly open-air artisan/organic farmer's market.

The nearby Bahia de Banderas is a whale and dolphin breeding ground and Sayulita has 3 bay sailing excursions/tour companies along with a host of surfing schools and hiking adventures, so there is much to offer for sports and outdoor fun.

Sayulita is easy to get to - about a 30-40 bus ride north from the Puerto Vallarta airport. Also, it's a 3-4 hour easy bus ride from Guadalajara. From the town center and principle beach, our casa is a direct 15 minute walk south on Sayulita's main road, Av. Revolucion, and is easy to find and to get to. We are close to nearby paths leading to 4 secluded beaches.

    Alojamiento

We have several apartments and often move our Workaway people around - from one apartment to another - depending on what's available. Each apartment has it's own kitchen with everything needed to cook meals, an en suite bathroom and a private entrance. We do not provide meals, however, since Sayulita is a very desirable destination, very expensive with accommodations being limited, we feel that we are offering a good advantage for those who desire to be in Sayulita and who are agreeable to the arrangement. We are flexible and easy regarding the work we are asking in exchange.

    Algo más...

Sayulita has grown and expanded into a desirable international tourist destination, but, basically It's still a simple life in a traditional Mexican small town where everyone knows one another. It's an amazing town which gained fame as a surf spot but also known for attracting artists, writers, musicians and with a full array of many interesting and colorful and very friendly people and a good social life, which we enjoy. It has always been a very international town.

To repeat fun things to do. It's a foodie town with an array of traditional Mexican restaurants and taco stands and also international cuisine. There is a yearly International Film "FestivalSayulita" which attracts guests from all over the world.

It's still a traditional town with much local color and interest, very artistic with many musicians, writers, artists and a weekly open-air artisan/organic farmer's market. The nearby Bahia de Banderas is a whale and dolphin breeding ground and Sayulita has 3 bay sailing excursions/tour companies along with a host of surfing schools and hiking adventures, so there is much to offer for sports and outdoor fun.

We have been very happy with the Workaway people we have had. We are friendly, accommodating people, and, ourselves, love to have fun, but with all the fun that we know can go on in Sayulita, the one thing we ask is that professional decorum be maintained and that you the keep the night-time socializing and fun in town. No visitors, please.

To add - we are mindful of our privacy, therefore, it's important to us for those involved in our lives be mindful of our privacy in a small-town environment - to not disseminate information about our lives and our doings. Our business is our business and needs to be kept that way. We are community-minded and caring people. We are happy to share positive aspects of life but, do not participate in gossip, as life can be enjoyed better without such things.
