We are a family of 2: Birdy 58 years, Antonela 50 years. We live in the island of Saint Barthélemy, French West Indies, in the Caribbean since 1993.
We have a Instructor Development Centre 5 stars Padi Dive Center located in Gustavia's harbour.
We are looking for divemaster or rescue diver

St Barts is a small, volcanic island located in the northwest Caribbean Sea. It is a popular tourist destination and is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. St Barts’ is a French-speaking island and its customs and traditions are greatly influenced by French culture. The capital city of Gustavia offers all the comforts of urban life, while more rural areas of the island offer a beautiful natural landscape for visitors to explore.

I stayed with Bertrand and Antonela for almost 3 months (August-October) and as I arrived in low season, my stay was more holiday than work. I am sorry for the late feedback. I stayed on the amazing Island of St Barts, with Antonela and Bertrand, for 2 and half month from mid January to late March 2019.

I had the most wonderful time there, being a diving instructor I was always out on the boat, guiding dives in the beautiful waters of the Caribbean, you can see turtles, spotted eagle… read more rays, nurse and reef sharks, octopuses, and so many fish!

Antonela and Bertrand are a lovely couple, they have their house rules, so as long as you follow them and do the jobs they ask you to do, you will all get along well. Unfortunately I didn't speak any french, so I missed out on some of the conversations going on in the house, I would suggest learning some french before you go.

While I was there, I spent my time with 3 amazing girls over the 2 1/2 months, Daphne who showed me the ropes and how everything work, in the house and on the boat, loved diving with her! Coralie and I spent a month together, wonderful adventures around the island, so many beautiful beaches to explore and Sabrina for the last 3 weeks, what fun, I took her for her first dives in the sea and completed her PADI Open Water with her, we ended up sharing a room and became very close. It was lovely being there with other workaway girls but if you are the outgoing type, then it's easy to make friends with the locals. You can go to ladies night, for free champagne, Antonela will make you feel right at home, she is lovely.

The house is situated on the hill, about 10 mins walk from the beach, and 40 mins walk for the capital where the night life is, very safe place to hitch hike.

They like you have to some diving experience before you go, to be helpful to Bertrand on the boat, other jobs you will be asked to do, cooking, cleaning, looking after the chickens and the garden with watering and picking veg.

You may have to share a room, if people come to stay, I ended up sharing with all 3 girls at different times during the time I was there, you get very close.

Bertrand can be a little intimidating when you first meet him but it's all exterior, he is soft when you get to know him. Plans change so be prepared for that to happen. If you work the mornings you will get your afternoons off and probably the Sunday too, but this can change if there are dives.

Go to St Barts with an open mind and you will have an amazing experience! It really is a brilliant place, I miss it!
