We have a steep terraced mountain farm in the foothills of Serra Estrella in Central Portugal, with a 300-meter altitude difference from top to bottom, our small rural community enjoys breathtaking views over the rio zezere. We are a family run permaculture farm, presently in the first few years of the project, where we aim to develop a regenerative permaculture food forest with learning centre and guest accommodation. The farm is split into three main areas: main house and facilities. Animal corral, kitchen garden with accommodation and Mountain farm with several open springs. The mountain farm mainly consists of olive trees, fruit trees, vines and berries, where we are in the process of growing and planting a more diverse collection of plants, flowers, vegetables and fruit. Our animal Corral houses chickens, guinea fowl, ducks and pigs. Our kitchen garden is planted with a variety of seasonal vegetables.

We are seeking proactive individuals that would like to be part of the project in its initial planning stages who have initiative and a creative mind to help plan and execute certain tasks. The farm requires a strong and able person as the terrain is steep and demands a certain level of fitness. Tasks that we might require volunteers to undertake is helping with the general farm including irrigation with crops and planting, animal care, clearing and processing agricultural waste and household tasks such as shopping and cleaning. We also look for other volunteers, with the necessary experience, who would be happy to Babysit two children aged 8 and 15 years old.
our volunteer accommodation is currently our cosy campervan and a room above the corral with electricity and wood burners. volunteers will have use of the toilets and showers at the main house.
There is plenty to see! The village location offers quiet walks and beautiful views, sleepy cobbled streets and traditional buildings, there is a small community cafe in the village open on irregular occasions, with a pool table. The river is accessible via a forest track and is a fishing zone. Pampilhosa da Serra is the main town of our council, 16km by road, There are taxis and once a day bus to and from the local town where there are shops, cafes, swimming pool, river beach, bars and restaurants. The council is abundant in nature and open spaces, it has cycle routes and extreme down hill courses as well as climbing routes and gentle walks and sleepy xisto villages. There are a number of local river beaches in our council our nearest is in our local Portela, 5 km away, with cafe bar and bbq facilities. There is also a postal point and shop in this village.
