Sabina and Dave’s hospitality was exceptional. The fridge was always generously stocked, and they’re both amazing cooks! I was so well-fed that I still think about those delicious meals😋 and their adorable dogs -Dizzy and Dolly -are very playful, affectionate, and always up for a cuddle💛
I have a cozy room with a lovely garden view. The highlight of my stay was definitely kayaking on the lake! During my free times I’d go for a paddle, or relax in the hot tub & sauna. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of helping out. The house and its surroundings are truly breathtaking -like living in a castle surrounded by lush flora and fauna. I loved watching the herons nesting in the trees and even followed Dave to feed the foxes once!
Sabina & Dave are very knowledgeable and have a great sense of humour. We had lots of great conversations over dinners. I learned a lot about Irish history from them, and they even introduced me to some amazing 90s romcoms! Staying with them was a privilege, and I can’t thank them enough for making me feel so welcome. Sabina & Dave, I wish you all the best and hope our paths cross again someday 💛💛

Sindy and I as as well as our two dogs stayed with Dave and Sabina for about six weeks which was about four weeks longer than our original two-week plan. I'll start this review off by saying it was an absolutely incredible stay and we highly recommended them to anyone who gets the opportunity to stay here. At first I was a bit apprehensive because
… read more of the situation with our two dogs and their three dogs but everything worked out great! Their dogs are extremely friendly and got a along great with our dogs.
The work was quite veried and there was plenty to do but we never felt overwhelmed. The variety was nice because if there was something that you just did not want to do there's always the option to do something else and both Dave and Sabina were very flexible about this. The work hours were also very flexible as well. We could basically work whenever we pleased and take off whenever we pleased. And on that note David and Sabina had great suggestions on our days off and on occasion they were able to drive us to places which was a great added bonus and very much appreciated.
The property and the house are absolutely beautiful and one of a kind just like the hosts. There are both very friendly, open-minded and intelligent people with a great sense of humor and they both are natural entertainers. The food we got was fantastic and they were always asking what they could get us and willing to accommodate our diets. I actually put on a few pounds while staying with them. They're very modest and act like they can't cook but let me tell you they certainly can and the food was delicious when they did. I could go on and on but really all I need to say is this was a top notch Workaway experience and I don't think it can be beat!!!!

5 weeks here have been the best workaway experience ever.
The absolutely gorgeous property, the surroundings and especially you David and Sabina as the greatest host's, made my stay unforgettable.

… read more feel comfortable with them and like part of the family. Sabina and David are great, open-hearted people with a good amount of irish humor, who make working with them feel more like helping friends.
They believe in fair exchange, offer you an incredible amount and show great appreciation for your good work.
They helped with figuring out travel plans, showed places to me and gave me a lift whenever it suited (but there is also a good bus connection to the surroundings).
The fridge was always generously stocked and Dave cooked very well for us. (There's a pretty good shepherd's pie waiting for you;) But they will be very happy when you show them some of your specialties too.
In my free time I really enjoyed going out kayaking or strolling through the beautiful gardens, playing with the dogs, doing yoga in the sunroom, or relaxing in the hot tub and sauna after a hard but enjoyable day of work.
I loved spending time with them, their friends and family, whether it was working, having funny and deep conversations on the kitchen counter or movie/football nights with David.
But if you need some time to yourself there is plenty of room for that too.
(And don't miss the Céilí dance classes in Corduff, if you like some traditional dance! ;)
My tasks vary greatly. I helped build a beach, shovel gravel, mow the lawn, paint, chop wood, weed and clean the house. There are many more tasks you can choose and switch between - so it never gets boring ;)

Mike is very easy-going and also easily pleased. It was a pleasure to share meals with him, we had many interesting conversations. Mike really is the ideal Workawayer - he gave us so much in terms of his knowledge and sheer hard work. He intuited the perfect balance between sharing our space and giving us space . At weekends Mike took trips to local landmarks, museums, etc. - we enjoyed hearing about his travels and adventures - Mike has been to more places in Ireland than we have and his weekend trips have inspired us to get to get to know our own country better and experience the many things it has to offer. … read more after it was left abandoned for so long. I appreciated the flexibly, trust, & communication given to me to carry out my work. Both Dave & Sabina are well traveled, fun company & ensure that you are happy whilst staying with them. The room in their fabulous home is superb with ensuite facilities. The highlights during my stay were definately the early evening hot tub experience & an incredibly memorable dawn kayak on Loch Sillian which is accessed from their property. There is a nearby bus route straight to Dublin, Newgrange is nearby & highly recommend the small but incredibly diverse & interesting Cavan museum. Although an incredible amount has been done already in the restoration of the gardens, there is still some work to do. I highly recommend these hosts as it was one of my best experiences in Ireland having been here for 10 months so far.

… read more linden tree. Jack is incredibly strong and helped immensely wheelbarrowing massive stones across the lawn for the wall I was building. Sigi is slight of build but don't let that fool you - I've seen her handle a leaf blower that I can barely lift - I am ever grateful to her for removing an unsightly over grown wild rose bush at our entrance gate. I got such a kick out of how much Jack enjoyed our hot tub and loved Sigi's endearing 'ball throwing' for the dogs. If you have the opportunity to host Sigi and Jack grab it with both hands -

After staying with Sabina and David for two weeks, we would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to spend quality time in Ireland. Their home is relatively easy to reach by bus from Dublin, and the property by the lake side is stunning!

Aside from having more than enough food available, Sabina and David were also very generous with their recreational equipment, encouraging us to use the kayaks down on the lake and the hot tub up at the house while we were not working.
The work itself was mostly gardening and landscaping, and nothing felt like it was too much to handle. The hours were flexible, so we were able to easily balance personal time around work if we wanted to do a few more hours one day and a few less on another.

We had many enjoyable conversations with our hosts around the dinner table, food was great and dietary needs catered for. We chose to sleep in our campervan, which had a flat park up and use the bathroom and kitchen facilities in the house. There was access to a washing machine too, which we were so grateful for after so long on the road!
In our spare time we visited local towns and woodland walks, well recommended by our hosts. We enjoyed Kyacking on the lake, cycling on local lanes and walking around the garden. This placement would suit people who prefer rural stays, though links to Dublin are pretty regular and a couple of hours travel. You’ll also need to be comfortable with dogs around too. She took pride in her work and persisted until the job was finished even if it meant reaching into awkward corners to remove nettles by the root. In addition she cleaned carpets in several rooms in the house. She was very pleasant company and not a fussy eater, she made some experimental dishes sing whatever was in the fridge which I have already cooked again. She was well capable of entertaining herself and found just the right balance between shared time and time alone. Her English is really of an excellent standard. I would highly recommend her.

I also took nice walks in the huge garden, went kajaking, chilled with a gin and tonic in a hot tub and read books Sabina got in the library for me. It felt more like holidays than work. My duties (which I could schedule by myself) contained dog sitting, weed pulling in the garden (don't worry if you don't know anything about plants, they will show you everything), hoovering and cleaning carpets, watering plants... The way Sabina and David aprreciated my work was very cute, so I felt honored and trusted. On my days off their sons visited and I got introduced into the family which means a lot to me. Christine was absolutely excellent and a pleasure to have around, she was very intuitive and totally 'got' the Workaway concept and really understood when to engage in conversation and when to give us personal space, which is particularly important when Workaways share your home. Christine was also an early bird, like us and I loved seeing her make the most of the grounds by kicking off the day with a restorative walk first thing every morning. Christine was very chill and sensitive to our needs as hosts.
We were also delighted that Debe, in particular enjoyed, kayaking and that they both got to travel to other destinations in Ireland during their stay. Debe seemed to really enjoy weeding the garden and spring-cleaning the kitchen cupboards. She is very chatty and so would be a great fit for hosts looking for conversation in the evenings. Christine and Debe worked well together as a team with Christine very willing to help Debe out with the 'heavier' lifting so to speak.
Christine and Debe are both lovely women, I admire their adventurous spirit and I wish them well on their travels. We would be happy to chat to any host considering them as Workaways.

They worked mainly in the garden cutting down holly trees, brambling, weeding and restoring paths after flood damage. They also did some painting and regularly cleaned the house. They were wonderful with our dogs and just all round great company - they knew when to give us personal space and when to join us for conversation and meals - They were excellent cooks - OMG - I still think about Willian's southern fried chicken - and Kathleen makes some mean cocktails - they made the most of what we have to offer as hosts which really pleased us - they kayaked, walked the gardens, used the gym and relaxed in the hot tub.

The work was also really enjoyable. We did a lot of clearing and work in the garden. If it was raining, they always had stuff for us to do inside as well. They always trusted us to keep track of our own hours.
There was also always delicious food and plenty of it! They introduced us to brown bread and Dave always got us anything we asked for at the grocery store. Typically we would all eat dinner together and Dave, who’s a great cook, made us some delicious meals. We also got to introduce them to some of our favorite meals.
During our free time, we loved kayaking, walking the grounds, and using their gym. We got into a great routine and being at Dave and Sabina’s felt like a break from the normal busyness of travel.
They also have four amazing dogs who we loved getting to pet and play with.
Finally, if you’re considering staying with Dave and Sabina, you 100% should. What makes a Workaway great are great hosts and they are the best of the best. They welcomed us into their home and made us feel like we were home. In addition to their hospitality and generosity, they’re also really cool people who are interesting to get to know. So grateful for how quickly this couple responded to our need for a safe place. Not only did they communicate well with us what our responsibilities and expectations before our arrival via messaging/video call, they were happy to show us parts of their home so we knew where we would be resting our heads at night. It gave us peace of mind during our transition.
The work was repetitive but we had the independence to tailor our work week to our preferences, staring early to enjoy the afternoon to ourselves or taking our time in the mornings to sip splendid coffee and chat. The home and gardens are breathtaking. This couple is full of brilliant ideas, they have a vision for bringing this property to the next level. The lake is absolutely stunning, I spent a couple mornings kayaking in the fog on blissfully calm waters. Evenings with these two can become quite eventful! Sabina is eager to jump into intellectual conversation - books, culture, and politics. Dave effortlessly cracked me up with his witty stories and sayings. He has radiant uplifting energy I greatly appreciated. I had a lovely time connecting with these two and sharing good laughs.

They came to us on short notice for a week and they were so brilliant we asked them to stay for 8 weeks and would have kept them longer if we could. … read more us first. They were an absolutely pleasure to host in our home, they were respectful and understood that both host and Workaways need private time. Equally we had some wonderful 'family' meals and fun evenings together that lasted into the early hours. The only difficulty we had was saying goodbye, there were tears.....

An amazing assignment! Our one week stay turned into 2 months! This review is going to be long because I want to tell you all of the great things about it, but if you're looking for short and sweet, here you go: great hosts, amazing property, nice accommodation, plenty of food, happy dogs, fair work, great wifi, accurate profile.

… read more longer version. The house is on a large piece of land, right on the lake. Gorgeous views of the Irish countryside. We had a private room with our own bathroom (pictures in her post), with access to the common areas. The pantry and fridge were always stocked with plenty of food. Greg and I cooked meals for ourselves. The 4 of us would occasionally eat together, but normally it is a 'cook when you're hungry' type of thing, which we really liked. The work was 25 hours a week. Dave and Sabina are flexible with how you want to work your hours, as long as you work hard and complete them. It is mostly garden work- for me, it was pulling weeds/nettles, cutting brambles, creating a rock wall along the lake path- for Greg, he drove the tractor around picking up all of our garden debris and used the wood chipper. On super rainy days, we did a few indoor projects, but mostly, we worked outside. They have 3 small well-behaved dogs. All 3 love being rubbed- (we miss them already!) For fun, we would kayak, walk around the garden, or walk to Shercock which is just about a 15 minute walk. Greg and I loved this assignment and were truly sad to leave. Sabina and Dave treated us very kindly and were fun to be around. We feel like family and honestly can't thank them enough! We had a lovely stay with Sabina and David. We found them very kind and generous. Enjoyed the kayaks and hot tub. With lots of laughs just hanging in the kitchen. Beautiful home cooked meals and very quiet and cozy accommodations. We also enjoyed working with them, easy going and grateful facilitators.
