I had the absolute pleasure of hosting Reeta and Mika this summer, and I can't recommend them highly enough! They are a wonderful couple – super easygoing, hardworking, and a true joy to be around. They helped me so much with various tasks like weeding, trimming, and painting, and their efforts really made a difference around the property.

Mika is an amazing cook, and I was lucky enough to enjoy a delicious dinner they prepared for me one evening. Reeta returned with a friend in September, and her positive energy and strong work ethic were just as impressive the second time around.
I would welcome them back anytime and wholeheartedly recommend them to any host. They’re caring, friendly, and bring such a positive atmosphere wherever they go!
We stayed in July at Janine's place, and Reeta returned back for September. We really loved this workaway experience and the possibility to spend half of the summer in here and to see the seasons change.
We did gardening like cutting hedges, trimming, weeding, etc. as well as some painting. We also aired the houses a few times a week.

We visited a river with a lovely swimming spot, a few local festivals, and had a couple of dinners with her. Janine is responsive host, and communication with her was really smooth and clear starting from our first video call.
We really enjoyed our time in this wilder part of Tuscany. The biodiversity in the area amazed us. We spot wild boars, porcupines, fireflies, tons of butterflies, birds, lizards, and, of course, different bugs. 🐛 We also visited many towns, cities, markets, and winerys in Tuscany, as well as spent a few days on the beach.
Despite the fact that the location is quite remote, there are still neighbours close by, so we never felt lonely and actually ended up making some friends as well. The last part of the way is dirt road so if you don't have a very high car you have to prepare yourself to drive slowly.
This was a really unique experience that we will remember for long time. Thanks for making it happen, Janine!

I regret that this arrangement did not meet Maarten's expectations, but I must clarify a few key points for future hosts.
From the outset, it became apparent that Maarten was not looking for the kind of arrangement that had been clearly outlined in the Workaway listing. The complaints started almost immediately upon arrival, the street wasn't
… read more appropriate and the swimming pool not ready for his use,... despite all the conditions being made clear beforehand. The property is in the countryside, accessible by an unpaved road, with natural elements like insects common to this area. The property is currently not a running holiday business, and no swimming pool was ever advertised on the Workaway listing. Despite this, Maarten asked if I he could fill the swimming pool for himself and if I can provide him with a car to drive around.
I had serious reservations about the fit of this arrangement from the start and would have preferred to cancel in order to avoid a negative experience for both sides. Maarten stayed, despite his dissatisfaction, and did minimal tasks like watering the plants and clearing a drain. I was not present during his stay, but the feedback I received from Maarten made it clear that he was not happy with the situation, despite the fact that it was exactly as described on Workaway and in the discussions we had beforehand.
It’s important for future hosts to know that while Maarten may have extensive experience, his expectations were misaligned with what was clearly communicated. I would urge anyone considering hosting him to ensure that all terms and expectations are crystal clear to avoid similar issues.

Below is a longer account of my experience in order to make sure my successors are well informed. Despite some setbacks I had a good time.
During the month of August 2024 I took care of holiday homes as was planned and agreed several months before. The idea was to keep it in the -according to the Workaway text- pristine condition. The holiday
… read more homes were currently not in use and the property for sale!
As a seasoned house and pet sitter that works on paid and unpaid assignments but also an experienced workawayer I was pleased to come across this opportunity on Workaway.
And as I owned my own holiday homes in the Austrian Alps for over 15 years I was quit curious. Apart from the one call with the owner I in preparation off course did some research and checked out the websites and the real estate agency. As this was going to be somewhat remote for an entire month. It was later decided and agreed that my wife would accompany me for her 12 days summer holiday.
On arrival I was surprised to see that the pool was not in use and the pool area together with the now non existing greenery (!) in a far from pristine condition. The remark from the owner: “the pool was not in the pictures on Workaway”. Correct but the property was supposed to be a running but paused business for sale according to the earlier mentioned websites.
The road to the house was in bad condition as was mentioned but not to the degree that it was so difficult to reach the houses. I own a long wheel base not very high but all wheel drive “luxury” car. The road is better suited for old(er) higher and short wheel based and 4x4 cars.
Especially the last part of the road is extremely tricky but that part you cannot escape(!). However I found out there is a longer but far better road leading up to the houses from Gabellino (via Cantiere Semataf srl) that is mainly tarmac and concrete. A bit longer but due to better condition almost as fast and definitely better for your car.
On arrival, as a result of the above I was a bit disappointed and found the whole situation somewhat misleading. I expressed this politely in a long call with the owner, who suggested I could leave. That was not my solution.
As you can understand from the earlier mentioned websites the location and surrounding are very much okay. I noticed The property/houses need some real attention from a builder in addition to that of the -workaway-caretakers. But you can still have a nice time here.
I stayed in villa which apart from outside electricity/lighting and half of the lights in the kitchen not working etc. was spacious enough. Due to the poor screens and the insects it was difficult to air the place.
In general I noticed there are annoyingly many mosquitos, horse flies, wasps and hornets (nests!) it is therefore key you come (season) prepared with all kind of protection and medication just in case.
Anyway despite all of the above I (we, during the stay of my wife) made use of our experience and adaptability and enjoyed what was there to enjoy, nature, hiking/walking to Boccheggiano, Gabellino etc. Some sightseeing by car (daytrips due to the road). Lack of the pool was partly covered by trips to the see, lunch/swimming at Panne & Marmelatte in Bocchegggiano, etc. And a few daytrips further afield. When I picked/dropped up my wife (both times “near” Florence) we decided to stay overnight. It is no problem to leave the property alone for a day/night. A tip I received from the workawayers who stayed there before me.
On arrival end of July I had a great handover from the previous workawayers including a very nice dinner and social time. With Janine I exchanged a few Whatsapp messages during my stay if and when needed. One of the earlier (July) workawayers returned end of august and we did a nice handover again and I left September 2nd.
The tasks were mainly as described in the description on Workaway. Main tasks (August) was the daily(evening) watering of the plants.
The place has great WIFI but even GSM 4G connection can be found on the property.
I wish you a pleasant stay.
(It was unfortunately that only later during my stay I decided to check out -all- the reviews on Google and realized the current situation already partly existed for some time)Este workawayer ha decidido que su perfil sea privado, pero otros workawayers pueden ponerse en contacto con él para hablar de este comentario.

I had the great opportunity to stay at Janine’s podere for a month. Janine assigned me the Villa Santi to live in, which made it a more than comfortable experience. I met Janine at the beginning of my stay when she was still around to show me the property and its infrastructure. She also made the effort to introduce me to the neighbors living in some distance, in order to have a local contact if needed.
Before Janine left, we stayed a few days together on the Podere and I had the privilege to get to know a charming, straight forward and most interesting person. Her easy-going personality and her uncomplicated approach to life as well as her practical attitude to solving problems, made it a very pleasant experience which I would regret to have missed. Hope to see you some other time again, Janine.
