We are a small homestead in rural Québec, growing veggies and fruits in a permaculture spirit. We are a micro-farm located in the beautiful rolling hills of Dunham. Our 14 acres include a mixed forest, vegetable and herb garden, greenhouse, swimming pond and trampoline, as well as an edible forest garden. Preparing sourdough bread, kombucha, yoghurt, and various preserves is part of our regular routine for our own consumption.
Our primary aim is to support each other in our spiritual development. We are a hopeful, imaginative and empowering response to modern socio-ecological challenges. Our farm is a site of ongoing holistic enquiry, with the aim to live mindfully, compassionately, ethically, resourcefully, creatively, and simply. We share a common worldview based on the belief that all living beings are interconnected and have intrinsic worth; that respect, kindness, generosity and friendship are cherished values to be practised; and that cultivating awareness and equanimity is essential for harmonious living. Informed by our continuous personal effort at observing our mental, vocal, and physical expressions, we take responsibility for our actions and strive to reach our fullest human potentials.
Here are the guiding principles of our life here.
Five ethical guidelines for harmonious living form the bedrock of our community. To assist us in maintaining high standards of personal integrity, we strive to refrain from harming living beings, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, speaking falsely, and consuming intoxicants.
We are committed to clear, honest, considerate and positive communication in our daily interactions, and are willing to invest ourselves to amicably resolve any conflicts as they arise. Listening deeply to others, practising humility, and appreciating the rich multiplicity of perspectives is the heart of our relationships.
While there are no obligations to have a formal and regular practice, it is encouraged to do so either individually or as a group. It is through intentional and sustained practice that we come to understand, appreciate, and commit to the vision outlined above.
Community Work & Decision Making
Adults are expected to participate in various activities such as consensus-based meetings, cooking, cleaning, child-care, gardening, construction/renovation, and so forth. A cooperative attitude is the fuel for a smooth functioning community.
Food All food we grow and purchase is vegetarian, and as much local and organic as possible within reason.
We are mindful of our consumption patterns and attempt to minimize our ecological footprints by reducing, re-using, and recycling.
Even though the work day is over, helpers are expected to contribute to the cleanliness of the communal spaces i.e.: living room, kitchen & bathroom.
