I have a 5 bedroom house in a beautiful little village in the Rhodopi mountains of Bulgaria near the Greece border.
I need help fixing up the house and garden, with the idea of turning it into a creative wellbeing retreat!

Any experience with things like plastering, rendering, carpentry, landscaping, roofing, painting/decorating etc would be fantastic, although anyone strong with a bit of labouring behind them will also be super helpful.

Looking for 1-2 extra pairs of hands to help me get things moving!
All tools supplied.

(Anyone with extra skills in website design, content, logos etc or any knowledge of getting their own business off to a start from scratch, would be an extra bonus!)

This is an opportunity to be creative, really connect with nature and get immersed in a idyllic little community, with a mix of Bulgarian locals and young ex pats from around the world looking for alternative life styles and eco living.

You would have your own bedroom, plus 3 meals a day supplied (and snacks) please note this is a veggie household though you are welcome to buy and prepare your own meat with no judgment 😊

I'm looking for 5 hours a day Mon-Fri.
(Opportunity for paid work outside of those hours too)
On your time off, there is plenty of beautiful offerings of the Bulgarian mountains including natural hot springs, view point treks and waterfalls. In the evenings we can go for Rakia around a bonfire, or often have social dinners at nearby friends mountain houses.

Also from time to time, I can offer free yoga classes to anyone needing a stretch before or after work!
Just a heads up it's a very remote area with lack of transport, best if you have your own transport, otherwise you can get around by foot, lifts by me, taxi or donkey cart!

Looking for 1-2 Workawayers, be great if you have any experience in building/carpentry etc with knowledge to help create beautiful spaces, or at least confidence in using tools (which are all supplied)
Ideally strong people not afraid to get their hands dirty!

Secondly, at time of writing I’m a bit fuddled so apologies to Hayley for many complimentary things I will forget to say.

If for no other reason then you ought to go for the experience… read more of Hayley. She really looked after me & another volunteer who arrived same time as me. She took us out to sites and introduced us to the locals, inviting us to events and arranging excursions. Then the food ! she’s quite the cook. There was talk of sharing the cooking for the evening meals but it was proven to be all bravado on my part, Hayley did the bulk of it and it was superb. (It may be that after sampling my efforts she was reluctant to press for more - though I outsourced a few meals to cover for my lack of skills which was acceptable.)

A warning: if Hayley picks up an instrument (she’s a fantastic musician) brace yourself, when she sings you might experience a feeling like the furniture in your chest is being heavily rearranged. It’s exhausting. To the extent that I found it difficult to be around when she sang, had to make my excuses on a couple of occasions. (And she isn’t reluctant, bit of a show-off really 🤩)

But don’t get the impression from that she’s some kind of angel. She’s definitely from the other place. At best fallen 😆

As to the work....... we were on with scraping-out old mortar from stone walls and preparing the new, fittings (screws or nails as appropriate), ground clearing, grass-cutting, iOS chopping, carrying, et cet. just as you’d expect with a house renovation. Then around the shared house stuff - taking-out the bins and all that (which I meant to do on my last days but was rained-off, sorry Hayley)

As to the hours, we sometimes worked over just because we were so into the project. Although she didn’t have to Hayley compensated us on other days with an earlier finish. She was really good about it. Though I gather she won’t take that from time wasters. I think it was because she trusted and valued the people who were there at the time that she wanted to reward the approach we took, the dedication we showed to work. I think she’s had people who needed more molly-coddling in the past 🤷‍♂️

One possible discrepancy with the five star ratings....... I ticked five stars for communication, to be entirely forthcoming that’s a one way thing, Hayley makes herself clear but I gathered that she couldn’t really understand me. (That’s being polite, the reality is she just tuned me out most of the time. ☹️)

I think it unlikely I’d be in the area again but it’s certainly one of the hostings I’d be willing to return to. (If she’d have me back that is, it’s possible I did more harm than good. 😬)
