    Profile updated August 2025

Hola, I am Conny, german, and living in a rural place of rolling hills in the andalusian countryside, 5 km from the nearby village Prado del Rey. I moved here nearly 30 years ago, and I have been running a horse riding business until 2 years ago. Now, all horses are retired due to old age, and the business has given place to a non profit association.
I'm again looking for (preferably long term) help with the animals, mainly feeding horses and cleaning the paddock trail , and walking some of the dogs. But there's always other stuff to be done if you are not into animals, weeding, fencing, building... It's mainly physical work, so you should be fit and comfortable with getting hot and dirty.

Our place is quite remote, sometimes our Spanish neighbours stay over, but most times it's just lots of nature to look at, our dogs, cats and retired horses around. The place is quite off grid, without running water, with compost toilet, and limited electricity, please see details further down. So please only apply if you are sure you can live that way, or if you are not sure, apply for a short enough term you know you can stand it even if you don't like it.

The nearest village Prado del Rey is a quite lively little town of 5000 inhabitants, with lots of nice cafes to hang out in 45 minutes walking distance, but most times I can probably drop you off, as I also have started to teach yoga twice a week, and am taking pilates lessons. From the village you can take buses to all bigger towns around, like Jerez, Cadiz, Seville and Ronda on your days off. There are also 2 nature reserves nearby with some of the most beautiful mountain villages of Andalucia.

After 20 years of a one woman horse business I seriously feel I want to take things a bit calmer, have something like a weekend, and a bit more freedom to move around again. So here we go. You don't have to do all of it ;)

    > Helping with horses
I still keep my six retired horses on a paddock trail on the land. Feeding the horses, filling up water, poopicking, checking electric fences, and grooming if you like would be a huge help. You should have enough horse experience to feel comfortable to feed a herd of 6 free living horses, notice if all horses seem ok (on my days off), and also accept that things might be different in other countries. None of the horses is ridable anymore.

    > Helping with the dogs. I always have a few stray dogs I picked up to live with me, but have little time to spend with them. So another thing is taking them for a daily walk and spend some cuddle time.

    > Helping with the hard stuff. There is always some more physical stuff to be done outside. Garden tasks, like weeding, harvesting, mulching, laying out organic material to help retain the soil, fencing, building, etc.

    > Helping around the house. The normal daily household tasks are shared, and not part of the working hours. But somehow stuff always seems to accumulate, so if you like organising spaces, that's also very welcome.

A bit of flexibility in helpers hours would be great as there might be longer and shorter days.
I would generally expect 2-3 hours of daily help on 5 days per week, and shared food shopping bills. I'm happy to share cooking and meal times.

    Alojamiento

We have 1 twin room with a bunk bed. You might be sharing the room with another person of the same sex for part of your stay. In any case, the flat is quite small, and kitchen and bathroom are shared with us. All household tasks are also shared.

The house is solar powered and you must be conscient with using the light and water, as both are limited. Hair dryers will collaps the system. Our toilet is a self built compost toilet which does not use water. The shower is bucket shower or camping shower, and water has to be heated in the kitchen for it if it is not sunny. So please only apply to us, if you can enjoy a very simple lifestyle close to nature.

Internet is currently not available at the farm, but usually 5G works well
