We are in restoring 4 acres of Formal Victorian Rhododendron and Woodland garden back to nature. Our wild flower meadow, native Scots pine and 300 yr old Oak tree will be your companions on this journey. The place is very special and overlooks Loch Fyne, hidden beneath the overgrown spaces are pathways built by a Victorian botanist who designed the garden which hosts the original well which supplied fresh water to this village. We intend to enhance our biodiversity and study the land, working against invasive non-native species and eventually increasing our sustainability, through an organic approach to growing food or maybe getting some honey bees. We are neither professional environmentalists, builders or gardeners and we are not perfectionist. The restoration has to wait as family life comes first. We intend to have fun recreating this great space and working together with whomever comes along to lend a hand, to teach, to learn and most importantly, to take this journey together. Its going to take time and we have already met some great people through workaway, its fun but be prepared to help physically and be sure to like kids and dogs as they feature heavily here!

We are generally looking to host Workaway(s) to stay with us n a lovely fishing village in Argyll, Scotland. We would like some help with the restoration of our garden as we farm wood, maintain paths or tackle invasive plants, always learning as we go! We will tackle non-native species and invasive plants on the land, chop wood, burn garden waste and generally complete whatever mini-project is under way. Perhaps constructing planters, planting up raised beds, dry stone walling, painting or building a compost tower or an environmentally friendly shower!!! The list is endless and you will not be without interesting and engaging tasks during your volunteer time.
Everyone takes a turn to participate to keep us all fed and watered, perhaps picking up groceries or taking out recycling and composting food waste.
Our children are often very involved and will sometimes work with us.
The helping pattern will be determined and set together, and we assure Workawayers that we operate on mutual respect and trust! No volunteer will be asked or expected to help more than 4/5 hours in any day and will have at least 2 spare days every week to discover this amazing landscape and enjoy the legendary Argyll hospitality! We will share with you our knowledge to best enable you to enjoy your time off.
We are in contact and regularly collaborate with other local projects so there will likely be opportunities to connect to other local and international volunteers and our local community networks.
Minimum stay is 4 weeks as it takes time to accept and settle new workawayers as part of our family. Normally we get the best out of our journey when we have 6 week workaway experiences.
Looking for workaways for Autimn and winter 2020! Please apply early.

Your accommodation will be either in the garden bunkhouse, its pretty off grid with log burner and composting tiolet but it has mains electricity, double bed, bunk beds, mini kitchen, outdoor sink and a mobile phone signal most of the time . If you choose a campervan (or under canvas is also possible during summer months) You may be accommodated on a sailing boat in the harbour on mooring in harbour whete wifi, electricity and modern showers are available. It depends on who is on the team and how we can allocate the living space. You will be offered a working lunch of soup/bread/fruit/pasta/rice/baking. We don't work every day and go with the weather and the people making sure we have lots of time to enjoy the surroundings.
Bikes, buses and island ferry hopping are all easily accessible here. Some tourists do 5 Island expeditions seeing the Southern Hebrides and the Island of Arran over a few days. Slightly further (an hour or so) is Oban which is known as the Gateway to the Islands!
