We are a warm, close-knit Christian vegetarian family of five living in a beautiful village near Bedford, overlooking a scenic country park. Family life is busy, joyful, and full of creativity, music, and good food. We especially enjoy cooking, playing live music, spending time outdoors, and sharing life with others.
Leon, my husband, is a teacher, and I work part-time in the creative arts while also caring for our three energetic boys — 7-year-old twins and our youngest, who is 5. The children love being outside and spend lots of time in the garden, at the park, or exploring nature. They also enjoy arts and crafts, reading, imaginative play, and spending time with people.
Our area offers plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling, with lovely routes along the River Great Ouse into Bedford town centre. We are also ideally located for exploring the UK — just one hour from London with easy access to Cambridge as well. We travel into London fairly often and are usually happy to offer a lift when possible.
During the week, the older boys are at school and the youngest attends nursery part-time. We are looking for someone who would enjoy becoming part of our family life and helping with day-to-day tasks such as household chores, food preparation, childcare, and general support around the home.
We have been part of the Workaway community for the past four years and have really enjoyed welcoming people from different backgrounds into our home. The experience has brought wonderful friendships and cultural exchange to our family life.
Our home can be lively and chaotic at times, but it is also loving, welcoming, bubbly, and full of laughter. We would love to host someone who is kind, positive, adaptable, and happy to join in with family life.

If you are interested in music this might be a stay of particular interest to you. We are both musicians and between us play: piano, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, organ, drums and sing. Leon also works as a music teacher. We welcome those who would like to join in with the music!
We are also vegetarian/vegan cooking and love experimenting with new recipes. We consider ourselves to be good cooks:)

Yuka is a very pleasant young lady. She was easy to talk to and brought a good atmosphere into our home. She was good with the children and enjoyed taking them to the park.

It's unusual to stay for less than two weeks, but Anthea, Leon, and their three kids, Josiah, Elijah, and Asher, made me feel incredibly welcome. I enjoyed my trip in England. I could visit Bedford, Oxford, Cambridge and London. I enjoyed to walk in the parks around the house. However, it lacks of communication about important things, which has prejudiced me. They weren’t clear on when they were going on vacation, so I didn’t have time to make plans. I had to leave earlier and to pay a… read more second return flight ticket. You have to work five and a half hours a day, and also to wash the dishes and the kitchen after dinner. Food is a little controlled. I brought my violin, I would have prefered if the kind of music we played was a little more varied than church music. I nevertheless keep a good memory of this experience. The whole family is very friendly and the children are endearing.

Anthea and Leon are flexible and convenient with working hours, which has allowed me to travel and explore England (Cambridge, Oxford, London, Dublin and Bedford) as well as its culture.
I am deeply grateful for their life and the way they dedicate everything they have to God. Being with us, inspired me because they truly aims at putting Christ in every situation they face. I felt loved and taken care of every day with them, and I will never forget the love and support they have shown me. They truly mean it when they say they will welcome you as a part of their family.
They have three lovely young boys who love to read, play, and are very creative. A lot of my time was spent with them and I loved watching them learn new things and play together. As a Workawayer, you will spend a lot of time with them. A few of the activities we did were exploring the beautiful park in the neighborhood (a great place to decompress and walk in nature), arts and crafts, reading, etc. If you are someone who is interested in childcare; then this is an amazing opportunity to hone your skills in teaching and interacting with young children. It helped me become more confident in my abilities.
Most importantly, this is a family that loves God and it is evident in the way they conduct themselves in their day to day lives. I grew so much in my faith from simply being around them. From the worship sessions, to the spontaneous late night chats about life and countless advice that helps build a young person on their journey with God or life in general. If you are someone who is needing fellowship, and/or are curious about what being in connection with God is like; then this is the right family for you. In one way or another you will benefit from being around such loving people. I am forever grateful for the countless ways they helped me, and am honored to have met them.

Anthea and Leon were wonderful hosts and welcomed me as part of their family for six weeks. Traveling to a new area is much less intimidating when you're immediately part of a family unit and Anthea and Leon understood that role completely.
Anthea and Leon were gracious and accommodating as I toured England with Bedford as my home base. They lent… read more me their bike so I could freely get around town (the town center is a 15-20 minute riverside cycle from their home). They also provided rides in their cars as well as advice for using public transit. During my visit, I easily accessed Cambridge, Oxford, St. Albans, and London as well as exploring many parts of Bedfordshire.
Anthea was very mindful of my time and flexible as we arranged my volunteer hours. I helped care for the three young children as well as helped to maintain the home and do organizational projects. The children are sweet and fun and I miss them already!

My only complaint, is that she is not staying longer! She comes highly recommended by our whole family.
