Our non-profit project consists of a 60 acre mixed species woodland with a very interesting past and hopefully a very interesting future. the land has been used for lots of different ventures but now it's being managed by those that want to turn it back to a native British woodland habitat and see nature thrive. As well as an evolving place for nature to thrive it is also a place with a lot of potential for people and community to thrive; to share and build skills and enjoyment for those that stay and visit. the list of projects to be involved with is endless. There are many big dreams here and we need help building them. If you want to live in the woods and contribute to and learn about a different way of living then get in touch.

What can you learn by staying here?
Within the realms of woodland ecology and alternative, off-grid living there is scope to learn pretty much anything you want.
Of us that live here there is a depth of knowledge in:
woodland ecology and practical management
greenwoodwork
traditional timber framing
tree planting and tree care
sawmilling
12v electrics
campervan conversions
general building
we can teach you what we know of these areas but if you want to learn something different that can benefit yourself as well as us then come here and learn it!
there's lots of space here for projects little and large. there's always something to get involved in. equally, if you have ideas then let us know about what you want to build, learn about.
this is a free open space for like-minded people to enjoy!
this piece of land has had a crazy history of use so because of the nature of that there is a lot of 're-balancing to do. so mainly we need help with...
selective woodland management (learning of invasive and non-native tree species and their management)
tree planting of native trees.
Rebuilding the old sawmill
track creation and maintenance
ecobuilding of social and educational spaces and structures
clearing of former waste areas.
BUT... if you can think of something that can benefit our project and our ethos then by all means you can spend your time doing that.

There are a couple of caravans free to use for guests. these have double beds, woodburners for warmth and gas hobs for cooking. There is a compost toilet and a lovely warm shower too.
evening meals can be provided and cooked together as a whole. Due to work and other commitments breakfast and lunch will have to be provided for yourself. However the amount of daily help required will be reflected by this.
there's also lots of space for guests to park up campervans and pitch tents/yurts.
Our project is completely off-grid. There is no running water or electric. water is brought in and the minimal electric usage is created on site through solar and a generator.
Guests would have to be comfortable with this. There is minimal phone signal also...but you'll get a much better connection in the woods once all the clutter of life is gone!
we're 4 miles from town with everything you could want there. 5 miles from the nearest lake, Ulswater and the beautiful Lake District National park.
there's a million and one things to do in the area if you like the outdoors.
