We are a family of 3 our son is 15 years old (typical teenager) We live on a smallholding in SW Scotland with alpacas, pigs, sheep and chickens. In the house we also have two cats and dog.
We enjoy going to the beach, boating, and the outdoor life. The area is very rural and friendly, great for cycling and walking.
We would like our son to experience different cultures and hear first hand about the wider world, this is a little more difficult now teenage years have arrived.
We are about 1km from the beach and sea and nearest village. We are very rural so there is little to no night life, no restaurants, shops and only 1 pub! We have lots of nature, peace and tranquillity though!
We have a lot of upkeep around the property, painting during wet days, the garden needs some work to get rid of the weeds, we also have wood that needs to be moved and stacked. The house always could do with an extra clean and attention. We enjoy our surroundings using the boat and swimming on nice days- even on wet days.
We will be happy to show you the area when we are out and about restrictions allowing.
The help is not hard but it is important that you are able to do it alone sometimes, we normally set a task in the morning and you are free in the afternoons but need a bit of flexibility.
Lockdown has limited the amount of visits out, we have great walks/cycles from the house and are in a very quiet area.
We need to have a police check from your own country prior to you arriving as we have to gain approval to accept you, this is not our rule, or a reflection on you but a council obligation that we have to do as we have foster children staying sometimes.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

We would love to introduce you to the smallholding way of life, experience rural Scottish life, and gain experience with animals and gardening. We will provide 3 meals a day and introduce you to the occasional Scottish dish. We don't provide alcohol but are happy for you to buy and drink your own. We make sure you feel part of the family and treat you as such, your English will improve and you may even gain some new Scottish dialect! We are flexible so if you wanted to go away for a week or so we can be used as a base to come back to. We are happy to take you when we have to go out and about, also happy to drop at the bus.

Ayuda
Volunteers can help with general maintenance of the smallholding feeding, fencing, tractor maintenance and hay making in late summer. We also have a large garden so grass cutting , cutting back, weeding and some digging. We need to do some regular maintenance in the house so general diy, painting etc. We have had a few tree's blow over so need to have them cleared, chopped and stacked and the small branches cleared. We also have a lot of wood that needs cut, split and stacked. We also have a never ending round of poo pickup from the Alpaca's We would love someone who was handy with mechanics, we have older tractors that need attention, but enthusiastic helpers are also needed.

We are in SW Scotland approx 2 hours from Glasgow and 3 1/2 hours from Edinburgh. We have bikes available and are happy to take a volunteer out for days when possible to see the area and share the water sports activities. We are close to Whithorn where there is an archaeological dig and Wigtown which is famous for its book shops. We have a local bus route close by and national buses in Newton Stewart. It is possible to go to (Belfast) Northern Ireland for the day from Cairnryan to see the Titanic experience or the Giants Causeway. We are flexible on picking you up from a local town, Newton Stewart, Stranraer or even Dumfries if that is necessary.

I was very well received and very quickly integrated into their family life.
The small jobs they asked me to do were reasonable. They always make sure that we are ok, that we don't want to eat or drink anything.
Whenever I wanted to take a whole day to visit, they let me… read more

The work I did was mostly gardening and painting and Suzie and Chris always made sure that I was fine doing the tasks and didn't get bored. And you can't really get bored if Buddy is around anyway.

We really loved our 4 weeks stay at Suzie's and Chris' place!
We got a warm welcome and shared a lot of moments with everyone, thus making us feel like part of the family. We also got clear explanations about the place, how the days will be organized, etc. Typically, you will start around 8h30, and you're done after lunch, leaving… read more
