WORK VISA FOR UK ESSENTIAL. Please check our availability before messaging as this is frequently updated.
Please note we currently have a vacancy from late May until the end of June.
We have a small rural estate and a big house in East Perthshire on the Highland Edge. We are three generations of the same family running a rewilding project and ecotourism business. We are involved with conservation projects and writing . There are also flats in the house and cottages on the estate with friendly people, both young and old. We have an interesting beaver reintroduction project with extensive wetlands surrounded by woodlands and an organic farm and hill land. It is a friendly and relaxed situation in a beautiful part of the world.
We are looking for a live-in helpers to manage the schedule for the cleaning of the cottages and off-grid accommodation including most of the cleaning and laundry and other tasks that arise.
During the tourist season this is a busy job, and needs extra helpers at times, but during the off season hours are generally lower (except over Christmas and New Year) and would suit a digital nomad.
All applicants must have a right to work in the UK. Minimum wage paid for all hours worked. No money is deduced for your accommodation in recognition of the fact that this post requires you to take initiative and responsibility for reliable and efficient cover.
You need to be able to ride a quad bike (or ready to learn) and it is a help if you can drive, as cottages are spaced out around the estate.
You will stay in a bedroom of your own and have access to Wifi.
We usually do get a lot of applicants and do not always have time to reply to all. Apologies if we miss yours.

We love having people from other countries, or equally from other parts of UK. Paul speaks good French and some Spanish. We enjoy the company of our staff and volunteers and share meals from time to time. While you will have your own space the atmosphere is friendly and supportive.
The estate is a little remote but has a small friendly community and our beavers and rewilding project attract interesting people throughout the year. Staying with us you will learn about life on an estate with an iconic rewilding project.
The castle was begun in the 16th century and has many interesting contents and stories.
Our estate is of especial interest (and delight) to anyone interested in wildlife and ecology and the area is interesting for archaeology. We are close to the Highlands for hillwalking etc.

My two months with the host have come to an end and leaving feels like waking up from a strange dream. My heart is brimming with memories: of the people I have met and the stories they have shared, of browsing bookshelves where I want to read every single book, of climbing the hills at dusk to watch waves of jackdaws roll across the fields and… read more exploring the surroundings of the castle, transformed by the beavers into an echo of what Scotland might have looked like before wilderness gave way to industrialization.
I stayed in a bedroom in the castle and cooked my own food in return for 15 hours of work a week, which meant I had lots of time for my own freelance work. The tasks were varied, from lighting stoves and cleaning yurts to painting signs and building a workshop, and all the building work was supervised by Dick, a very friendly builder and a great teacher.
I am so grateful for my time here and I think I have only begun to realize what a profound impact these months will have on my life.

Great workaway experience!
Together with a group of other volunteers I constructed two yurts under the leadership of the experienced builder Dick. Nothing too hard, and everything goes with a very relaxing… read more atmosphere.
This is a beautiful estate where Louise and Paul are rewildering some of there land to make room for beavers and other wildlife. They were very gentle and talkative, and always very helpful.
There a lots of hikes to do, especially the cateran trail, which goes through the estate, and there are mountains, hills and waterfalls in the neighborhood.
Thanks for the memories!

I spent two weeks here helping to build a beaver-viewing hideaway along with other volunteers and it has been a brilliant experience.
The help: 5 hours a day 5 days a week. These hours are fair and I was never pressured to do above or beyond them. For this particular project, I helped with Dick, an experienced builder, so there was lots of… read more support and guidance for a novice like me. Helping hours were generally 9-3 with an hour or so for lunch.
The accommodation: I stayed in one of the many bedrooms and privacy was never a problem. Bedding and towel provided. There is a good shower and do-it-yourself laundry facilities.
The social side: This was a great place to meet other volunteers and make new friends. Paul, Louise, the rest of the family and all other residents and guests are delightful, extremely welcoming and definitely great company. We had many interesting and funny conversations and learned a lot about local politics, beavers and the history of the estate.
The food: Self-service breakfast of cereals, fruit, toast tea and coffee etc. Lunch is at 12.30-1pm and is usually something warm and filling. Dinner is around 8pm and is always delicious. If you are vegetarian, vegan, have allergies or intolerances, never fear! Paul and Louise are wonderful and will do whatever they can to ensure you eat well.
Things to do: The closest village (Alyth) is about 50 minutes to 1 hour's walk away and you can either follow a section of the Cateran trail or take the Den of Alyth. Both are lovely walks. However, a lift into the village for supplies or to catch the bus is often available. There are great walks all around the estate, plenty of wildlife and there's always the opportunity to help with some political campaigning too. There's a couple of pubs in Alyth but nothing too wild!
If you are in search of an interesting place to live where you can meet caring hosts and friendly people, have the opportunity to learn new skills and be outside, this is the place for you. There are currently plans for a volunteer common room too so things can only get better!
All that is left to say is an enormous thank you to the all the family and good luck for the future. I am certain we shall meet again one day.
