We are a small family of three - myself, my husband, and our 10-year-old daughter -living just a short walk from the sea on the beautiful Copper Coast in Co. Waterford. For the past four years we’ve been slowly and lovingly transforming our 2 acres into a thriving permaculture space that supports both people and wildlife. In that time we’ve planted hundreds of native trees and plants, created a wildlife pond, built bug and bird homes, and learned how to truly share the land with nature.
We grow a wide range of vegetables and fruits using our veg garden, polytunnel and greenhouse, and as the growing season begins again we’re looking for someone to join us to help prepare veg beds, seed sowing, potting on, and some light general garden care.
My husband is a permaculturist (currently completing his diploma) and a wildlife gardener, with lots of practical knowledge and experience to share. I am studying community herbal medicine and love working with plants for health and wellbeing. We’re passionate about learning, sharing skills, and building community, and this year we plan to host more meitheals – traditional Irish gatherings where people come together to work, learn, and support each other.
Our home is also shared with our much-loved dog and three friendly hens, who provide us with fresh eggs and plenty of entertainment.
We welcome Workawayers who are interested in permaculture, gardening, sustainability, herbal medicine, and living in harmony with nature. In return for your help, we love offering a warm, supportive environment, hands-on learning, shared meals, and the chance to be part of a small but growing permaculture community by the sea.
We’re also dreaming of bringing a little more colour and creativity into the space. We have some blank walls that we’d love to turn into murals one day, so if any Workawayers happen to enjoy painting or art, we’d be very happy to explore that together. It’s not a requirement at all, just a lovely bonus if it aligns with someone’s interests.

For travellers, staying with us is a chance to experience everyday family life in rural coastal Ireland, in a calm and nature-based setting. You won’t just be helping in the garden, you’ll be sharing meals, conversations, and daily routines with us, and becoming part of our home while you’re here. We see Workaway as a two-way exchange where we learn from each other.
Life here is relaxed and mostly quiet, with lots of time outdoors, close to nature and beautiful beaches. The nearby town is just a 10-minute drive away and has great cafés and a long sandy beach that’s popular for surfing.
My husband is part of a local eco group that does weekly beach cleans and coffee catch-ups, and we’re also part of an online permaculture group that meets occasionally.
Travellers can learn and experience:
Growing food in a garden, polytunnel and greenhouse
Wildlife gardening and working with nature
Composting, soil care and seasonal rhythms
An introduction to herbal medicine and working with plants
I speak a little French, and we’ve hosted Spanish students every July for the past few years, which we’ve really enjoyed. I’ve travelled extensively and love learning about other countries, cultures, and ways of living, and hearing people’s stories.
For us, hosting is about sharing our home, land, food, and what we know, while also learning from the people who stay with us. We hope Workawayers leave with new skills and a deeper connection to nature, just as we gain new perspectives, friendships, and cultural understanding in return.

Ayuda
The help here is hands-on and very much shared with us. As we move into the growing season, tasks may include helping to prepare garden beds, sow seeds, potting on plants, planting out, weeding, mulching, and general care of the garden. There will also be time spent in the polytunnel and greenhouse caring for seedlings and crops.
Some light help around the wildlife areas may also come up, like tidying paths, maintaining spaces, or adding to bug hotels and bird habitats.
We enjoy working alongside our Workawayers, so most tasks are done together, at an easy pace, with plenty of space to ask questions and learn. My husband enjoys sharing his knowledge of permaculture and wildlife gardening, and I’m happy to share what I’m learning about herbal medicine and working with plants.
If someone happens to enjoy art or painting, we’d also love to gently explore creating a mural on one of our blank walls. This is completely optional and just a creative extra, not an expectation.
Overall, we’re looking for people who enjoy being outdoors, feel comfortable in a family environment with a child and animals, and are interested in sustainable living, nature, and shared learning.

Alojamiento
Workawayers will have their own private double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and bedding provided. The house is warm and spacious, with access to all the main living areas which includes living room, dining room, conservatory with wood burning stove, kitchen.
Meals are usually shared with the family. We love cooking seasonal, home-grown food where possible, and Workawayers are welcome to join in preparing meals if they like. We can accommodate different dietary preferences with some notice. There’s also plenty of space to make your own snacks and drinks throughout the day.
We live rurally, so evenings are generally quiet and peaceful, perfect for relaxing after the day’s work.
Algo más...
The closest beach is a 15–20 minute walk from our home, and we have bicycles that Workawayers can use to explore other nearby beaches. We’re not on a direct bus route, so a car is needed to get into town, but we can provide lifts when we go in for school runs, shopping, or other errands. From the town, it’s easy to catch a bus to Waterford city or the bustling town of Dungarvan, both worth exploring.
Around the house, there’s plenty of space to relax. The conservatory is a great spot to chill, read, or listen to music. Evenings are generally quiet, and with our daughter going to bed at 8:30pm, we ask everyone to be mindful of noise after that.
We live a calm, family-focused life and appreciate Workawayers who are respectful and considerate. We have a no-smoking and no-drugs policy. The house is generally quiet but comfortable, and there’s plenty of room to enjoy your downtime.
