Descripción
Hi,
I´m Martina. I used to host workaways at my home, before we started with other mums DRAK, a small independent free / democratic school in Zdiby, just outside Prague, Czech Republic (10 mins by bus).
Our name DRAK stands for **Dobrovolnost, Respekt, Autonomie and Konsensus** – Voluntariness, Respect, Autonomy and Consensus. These principles guide the way we work with children and with each other.
We believe that children are naturally curious, capable and full of ideas. At DRAK, they have a lot of freedom to choose what they want to learn, what they want to work on and how they want to spend their time. We combine self-directed learning, democratic education and the Czech national curriculum.
Our school is small and personal. Children of different ages learn together, work on individual and group projects, read, create, explore, play, spend time outdoors and participate in running the school community. Children and adults also meet regularly at our school meeting, where we discuss what is happening at school and make decisions together.
What would you do as a Workawayer?
We are looking for someone who would like to become a real part of our school community.
Your time with us could be a combination of working with children and helping with the everyday running of the school.
With the children, you could:
* spend time with children during their daily activities
* help them with English or another language
* join their games, projects, reading and creative activities
* share your own skills, interests, culture or hobbies
* help with outdoor activities and trips
* support children when they are working independently
* come up with your own activities or projects
You don't need to be a qualified teacher. We are much more interested in your personality, reliability, openness and willingness to engage with children.
Helping around the school
A small school also means that everyone helps to keep the place running.
We would therefore also appreciate help with practical tasks around the school, for example:
* keeping classrooms and common areas tidy
* cleaning and organising
* helping prepare materials and activities
* taking care of the school garden and outdoor areas
* moving, sorting or assembling things when needed
* helping with occasional maintenance and practical projects
* preparing the school for activities, events or the beginning of a new term
We see these tasks as a natural part of being a member of our community. We don't expect you to spend your whole day cleaning – we simply want someone who is happy to roll up their sleeves and help wherever needed.
Who would fit in well at DRAK?
You don't have to be a teacher. You might be a student, traveller, artist, musician, educator, gardener, carpenter, language enthusiast – or simply someone who enjoys being around children and wants to experience a different approach to education.
What matters to us is that you are:
reliable, responsible, kind, open-minded, proactive and comfortable with children having freedom and their own opinions.
We appreciate people who don't wait to be told about every little thing and who can look around and think, “I can help with that.”
In return, we will welcome you into our community, introduce you to our approach to education and give you the opportunity to experience everyday life in a Czech democratic school.
And, of course, you'll have plenty of opportunities to explore Prague and the surrounding area in your free time.
If you are curious about alternative education, enjoy working with children and don't mind getting your hands dirty once in a while, DRAK might be the place for you. -

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
We believe that cultural exchange is an important part of the Workaway experience.
You will not only experience life at our school, but also have the opportunity to discover Czech culture, everyday life and the people who live here.
We are happy to introduce you to our local community and, when possible, arrange opportunities to meet Czech families and friends. I have hosted Workawayers in my own home before, so I know how valuable it can be to experience a country not just as a tourist, but through the everyday lives of local people.
You will also have plenty of opportunities to explore the Czech Republic in your free time. Prague is just a short bus ride away, and there are many beautiful places to visit around us. You can travel around the country by train or bus, visit Czech towns and villages, explore castles, nature and hiking trails, or simply discover places that are not in the usual tourist guides.
At school, you will also have a chance to learn about Czech culture directly from the children and our community – and to share your own culture, language, traditions, food, stories and experiences with us.
We see cultural exchange as a two-way experience: you come to learn something about Czech life, and we are excited to learn something about where you come from.
You can experience life in the Czech Republic, learn more about our culture, if interested also learn some basics of Czech language -

As a Workawayer at DRAK, you would become part of our everyday school life. Your time with us would be a combination of spending time with children, joining school activities and helping with the practical things that keep a small school running.
We are especially interested in what you already know, enjoy and are currently studying or working on. We would love to make use of your own skills and interests and give you space to share them with the children.
For example, depending on your background, you might:
* help children with English or another language
* lead a creative, art or music activity
* do a science or nature project
* share your knowledge of history, geography, technology or other subjects
* help children with sports or outdoor activities
* work on a project related to your university studies or profession
* teach children a practical skill or hobby
* help with photography, video, computers or other technology
* simply spend time with children, play, read and support them in their own projects
You don't need to be a qualified teacher. We are happy to welcome students, professionals, artists, travellers and people from many different backgrounds. If you have something you are passionate about, there is a good chance you can share it at DRAK.
At the same time, life in a small school is not only about working with children. Everyone helps with the everyday running of the place, so we also expect Workawayers to help with practical tasks such as cleaning, organising, preparing materials, taking care of the garden and outdoor areas, moving or assembling things and occasional maintenance.
We see this as a two-way exchange: you bring your time, energy, skills and ideas, and we give you the opportunity to experience an alternative approach to education, become part of our community and learn from the children and from us.
What we expect from you
We are looking for someone who is reliable, responsible, respectful, open-minded and proactive.
You should enjoy being around children and be comfortable in an environment where children have a lot of freedom, make their own choices and are encouraged to express their opinions.
We appreciate people who can look around and think, “I can help with that,”rather than waiting to be told what to do.
Most importantly, we would like you to come not just as a visitor, but as someone who is willing to become part of our small community, contribute, share your own ideas and enjoy the experience with us. The cultural experience and sharing cultures is really important to us. -

Alojamiento
You will have your own private room with a sofa bed at school. There is a desk and shelves for your personal belongings.
We have double sofa bed, so it is possible to acommodate max 2 people who are willing to share it.
There is a shared kitchenette and bathroom. The kitchenette is shared with other people during the day, but in the evening it is available exclusively for you, so you can cook and relax in privacy.
On weekdays, we provide lunch from the school canteen. For breakfast, dinner and meals at weekends, you can use the kitchenette and prepare your own food. Water, tea and coffee is usually available.
The accommodation is simple with your own private space to relax after a day at school or exploring the Czech Republic.
We use non-toxic products at school. No smoking or perfumes at school (because of allergies). There is a washing maschine at school - can be used with our nontoxic washing powder.
There’s a small garden where you can relax. Prague is about 10 minutes away by bus, the bus stop is about 5 minutes from the school.
School is located in older industrial area which is going through reconstruction slowly. There are some garages, some offices in our building, apartments of the owners (they have 2 dogs, they are friendly, but if you are scared of dogs, we cannot accommodate you as we have no influence whether the dogs are closed or not) and there are some other older buildings in the area that are used for families from Ukraine. Just opossite the school is a brewery with restaurant. -
