Hello my name is Gugi, I worked in cultural institutions for the past 6 years and decided to create my own cultural and community space in my village in Cisaga, Ciamis, West Java, Indonesia. Recently me and my family built a kindergarten, non profit private school, guest houses and common space for community in the village. So they can get a free workshops in order to improve their quality of life.

Conceptually, it is a place to facilitate a meeting point between different cultures and backgrounds. Its vision is to facilitate an exchange in the sector of culture, education, and social interaction. It's concentrated in building the "bridge" not only between the inside (local) and outside (national/international) but also between the bridge between what is consumed and how its produced.

It is also intend to be a place for different kinds of people to meet and learn from each other. It's a common space and an alternative education about nature, contemporary life in Sundanese culture, and also things that happen outside the context of our environment.

I believe that a "direct" exchange between different experiences and knowledge is a very positive way of any learning process. The intersection that is created by that exchange can create "unexpected" potentials and "new" ideas in developing something that is useful and in a balance between the "traditional" and the "modern" aspect.

My biggest dream that our place should play a big part in the development of sub-district Cisaga, Ciamis, West Java in the sector of socio-culture and economy.

There is a lot of things that you can contribute with. From farming (we have our own rice field), teaching english to kids at the school, help us to organize our regular event like film screening or traditional music for the community, or simply help to share idea how this project could develop further. This village is also located near the south coast of west java that famous for surfing for beginner (Batu Karas beach) if you are intending to continue to travel in the region. If you are interested with the idea and willing to help, just let me know :)

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
You will be experiencing values of Sundanese culture by learning the history, arts (dance, textiles, music, etc) and you will be integrated into the community and temporarily become part of it. So you become aware of the inner concerns, hopes, and dreams of this community. Which then it will come the corresponding knowledge of what it means to belong to your own particular country and culture.

Currently we need volunteers who are willing to contribute

1. Video promotional project; this project intended to teach the villagers, how to create a promotional video about the tourism potential site near the village in english. The tasks for the volunteer will be:
a. Formulating english content.
b. Acting/Public speaking.
c. Camera and editing with smartphone.

2. Theatre project; this project intended to teach the villagers, how to create a play about sundanese folkstory in english. The tasks for the volunteer will be:
a. Together with the villager to create a script in english
b. Involve to prepare the play for a show in our space.

3. English conversational course; this project is to give an english conversational lesson for the kids age 12-15 everyday in public school nearby. You will be working closely together with the english teacher from the school.

4. English basic crash course; this project is to give an english basic course for the kids age 6-12 everyday in private school nearby. Volunteer will be expected to create a fun method way to teach the kids about basic english.

You will be staying in a private room of my house which equipped with bed, wifi and working desk. It is located right next to the community space that you will be doing your task. We will offer you food a meal per day. But it is pretty cheap to buy food in a small restaurant around (1 USD) otherwise there is a full equipped kitchen that you can always use.

There are some hiking trails nearby that you can go through the mountains and river and people from the village would be more happy to accompany you around. Otherwise we could also arrange a trip to Batu Karas Beach to surf and to Green Canyon to do body rafting. Train station is only 10 min away drive there is always motorbike taxi or public bus near by.
