Hi, my name is Maya. I set up a school in my village 4 years ago. The village is situated in a mountainous region, outside Pokhara, called Dhuwarkot Tilahar. The village is populated by low caste, subsistence farmers.
Before this period there was no school in the village, and the children had to walk great distances to receive their education. It was my ambition to improve the education for the children in the area.
I hope by signing up to workaway I can attract enthusiastic volunteers from all over the world, to this beautiful village, in order to help with the local peoples education and understanding of the world.

Volunteers will be required to teach English in the local primary school. There are three classes, and the children are aged between 3-7 years old.
It would be useful if any interested volunteers would bring materials to aid them in teaching the classes.
If the volunteers want they can also help the locals farm their land.

Accommodation is provided. There is a separate room that has been built attached to the school, with two single beds and cooking facilities. There are also toilets, and a wash room (but no shower, sorry).
Working in this village will be an excellent way to experience traditional Nepali rural-life. It is an area of outstanding beauty, with endless rice paddies and on clear days you can see the peaks of the Annapurna range.
Be warned, this village is quite remote (1 hour bus, 1 1/2 hour walk from Pokhara), and there are few shops near-by. This means volunteers will have to come prepared for the duration of their stay e.g food, teaching resources.
Volunteers, may cook on some days if they wish. However, it is very likely that you will be invited for some dal bhat (rice and curry) by many of the friendly and curious villagers.
Advice on getting to Dhuwarkot. To get to the village volunteers will need to catch the local bus outside Devi's Fall in Pokhara, which will drop you off near a village called Kristi. Afterwards expect a 1 1/2 hour/2 hour walk. Don't worry about getting lost after that, some of the local villagers will pick you up on arrival and take you to the village.
We ask for a donation of $5 a day to cover the cost of food/accommodation/upkeep of school.
Special thanks goes to Anne, who is our main funder. Without her financial assistance it would not have been possible to open the school. Also thank you to Cathy and Elenea for their continued support.
