If you love exploring forests and mountains, have strong DIY skills, and enjoy meeting new people, this might be the Workaway opportunity for you. Our mission is to build a community hub for hikers and outdoor lovers in the heart of Dilijan National Park, ready to open in the summer of 2022.
With our doors opening in July, we're looking for volunteer hosts, housekeepers and gardeners to welcome guests and keep the hostel clean and well-managed throughout the summer. During your time with us, you will have your own bedroom (shared with other volunteers) as well as full use of the hostel facilities.
As well as providing a community hub for trail users local and international, our goal for this social enterprise is to help sustain the trail network in Dilijan National Park, either by generating funds through the hostel business itself, or having our guests join in with volunteer trail maintenance days we'll be running throughout the season.
We are co-founders of the Transcaucasian Trail, a long-distance trail network being built across the Caucasus, and this will be the first dedicated hikers' hostel on the trail. If you're keen to be part of this mission, and like the idea of spending time in one of Armenia's best-loved beauty spots, we'd love to hear from you!

You’ll be based in the heart of Dilijan’s old town, within easy reach of the National Park’s extensive network of trails, making this a perfect base for exploring northern Armenia and spending time in some of the best mountain and forest wildernesses in the country. We have strong ties to many local businesses and entrepreneurs and can connect you with almost any opportunity you might imagine.
Between the months of June and October (potentially November), we will be looking for volunteers to help run the hostel. Working hours will be split between morning check-out/housekeeping and evening check-in and hosting, meaning you can get out on the trails and enjoy the long summer days. Daily duties will include cleaning, housekeeping, and checking-in/checking-out guests. Extra staff will be present during weekends, which tend to be the busiest.
On quiet days, we will also be tasking volunteers with a wide variety of practical and creative work – renovation, construction, decoration, upcycling old furniture, creating furnishings from discarded and donated materials, and creating a friendly and warm atmosphere for hikers. Examples include DIY and carpentry projects to improve the facilities in communal spaces for, maintaining and improving paths around the property, weeding and planting garden areas, processing firewood, and improving the appearance of the hostel using donated and found materials.
We will expect each volunteer to contribute 25 hours a week on a flexible weekly timetable, and we’re looking for people who can commit to a stay of at least one month. We will strongly encourage you to go hiking in the area as often as possible so that you can share your experiences with other volunteers.

We have private sleeping spaces for two volunteers in bunk-beds in one of the two hostel dormitories. You’ll have the use all of the communal facilities at the hostel, and you’ll also have access to a storage room and workshop with a large range of tools.
We’re long-time international travellers, as well as experts on the local area and the hiking opportunities in the national park. We can help you arrange local transport to explore the region more widely during your free time. We speak the local language and are here to help you get the most out of your time here!
