I am willing to share my little piece of paradise in rural Prince Edward Island! I am a 60+ yr young male who is quite active and easy going. I look forward to this opportunity to meet people from other areas of the world that would like to experience country life on the "gentle island" in eastern Canada.

Prince Edward Island has unique slower pace of life which attracts those who want to escape the rushed hectic life of big cities.

Summer is alive with theatre, music concerts, ceilidhs, and many other activities to participate in. Or just take a day to enjoy the scenic coastal drives and country landscapes of our Island home. Quiet beaches are plentiful and within a 10 minute drive of my home. Whem I am not too busy, I would be more than happy to be your tour guide and explore the Island with you.

I own a 1854 original PEI farm home which I have been renovating slowly over the last decade! I would like some help in light construction and renovation while fixing up this unique historic Island home.

In the summer, there are extensive flower gardens and I grow a large organic vegetable garden every summer. All this constantly needs a passionate gardener's touch, along with cutting grass. tending to ponds, etc.

I can welcome some winter visitors as well, as this is a time when I concentrate on getting the interior of my home more finished.

The property has a small guest house which can be used for summer use. In the house there are 4 bedrooms with two bathrooms. Two living room areas and large dining room. Lots of space on the grounds if one wants to just go read for awhile.

On one side of my driveway is a heritage road that is great for taking walks through the woodland. I can provide a bicycle for beautiful rides through the countryside.

There is a fully equipped modern kitchen which my guest would be welcome to use as well. I do like to cook, so I will do my best to provide good meals and as well, I hope that you can create some meals from your cultural background! I am more than willing to try new culinary dishes!

My home is gay friendly, so I ask that you be comfortable with this as well!

I am located 5 mins from the town of Kensington and 20 mins from the city of Summerside. Charlottetown is 45 mins away.
Bus and shuttle services are available to bring you across the Confederation Bridge from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Also Charlottetown airport has connecting flights to major Canadian cities.

My stay with Stacy was one of the most enjoyable workaway experiences I've had. He is truly a wonderful person and one I can call a friend. I had such peace at his home and fell in love with Prince Edward Island. I hope to return soon.

Ah...Christmas! Another of my favorite seasons! What better way to enjoy the darker days of December than to sit by the fire and be cozy!

The start of my organic vegetable garden in June. I add seaweed between the rows for weed control and adds valuable nutrients to the soil when tilled in in the fall.

Tomato harvest from my garden... Yum!

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year! Love that fresh green lush growth coming up through our red soil.

This is a PEI 1800's flag stop train station which I brought to the property to have restored from 'soon to be' collapsing state. The railways were removed in the 1980's.

Kitters the Kat lets me live here too and help manage his kingdom!

I stayed with Stacy for two and a half months from the end of January until mid-April, just a day ago. For both of us it was the first experience with WorkAway. I really hope there is no character limit on this, cause I have so much to say about my time on PEI. Stacy was an amazing host and I felt right at home from the very start! Stacy showed me… read more around the island, so I could see of the very :asterisk_symbol:special:asterisk_symbol: culture that PEI has to offer. I was able to come along pretty everywhere, if I wanted to. On one of my first days, we went to the auction (which I recommend to everyone who chooses to visit PEI!!) and had great fun there! I was invited along to brunch, supper, concerts and the theatre, whatever was on and met a whole bunch of Stacy's friends over that time. All of which have been incredibly welcoming and I was always treated as if they had known me for years! We even invited to take a trip down to Halifax, which was incredible and I am very thankful for the opportunity! The north shore is also great! In the Winter too!
Walking or driving around the island is plenty of fun, even in the winter! Especially snow-shoeing up Stacy's road is something I highly recommend, if you get the opportunity to! It was my first destination in Canada after landing in Toronto and it seems to be a different world there, just as much as Toronto is a different world compared to Europe!
Stacy also has two cats! Both Celie and Kitters are both just as unique in character as all the 2-legged Islanders and just as friendly! Playing with Celie and being the doorboy for Sir Kitters, the Cat were my two favourite tasks on PEI for sure!

Stacy was very easy going, he didn't care when I slept in a little, as long as I got work done that day. I never felt pressured or overworked. Frankly, I hope I didn't do less than I was expected to. Since I came in the winter, there was no garden work to do and all my chores were inside the house. I painted doors, stairs and walls. I tore down wallpaper and the walls underneath, replastered them, sanded doorframes, spindles and old furniture. Sometimes I did two or three different things a day, sometimes worked on the same thing for a couple of days in a row. I did whatever Stacy needed to be done, but I think he tried to make sure, I wasn't getting bored. The great thing was, that I was always able to see the progress that I/we made. When the old wallpaper was gone, the hallway finally all green, or the pile of spindles white, it was a satisfying feeling.
Me being a vegetarian was also no problem for Stacy! I didn't cook very often, cause all I can do is cake, but Stacy didn't mind making a meal half veggie, half carni ;) and even ate vegetarian a lot along with me evey now and then. He's a great cook also, by the way! Don't miss out on his chili (con or sin carne!)!
We also had huge amounts of fun and lots of laughs! I've only been to the auction once, but we laughed about it until my last day! I got quite the kick out of canadian televsion and especially the corny local commericals and Stacy enjoyed me going crazy over it, so watching televsion was always quite the laugh! We also watched some great movies (some of the a couple times: "She's a lovely lady"..), that we had just as much fun quoting, as we had watching them.
It was in more than one way one of the most fun times of my life. And at the same time, I can't believe how much I experienced in 2.5 months and that it was just that short! If I hadn't had other places in Canada that I wanted to visit, I would've surely stayed until summer!
I can only recommend to visit Stacy on PEI, even if that requires you to go a little of your way. Stacy is an amazing host, the island is beautiful and I met lots and lots of awesome people, both Islanders (& Nova Scotians) and other WorkAwayers!
I will definitely come back eventually, to revisit all the great people, that I met while being on the Island!
