Descripción
I am a former journalist with a lifelong experience, I have travelled around the world, lived in Tunisia, Paris, Rome, Moscow and New York. I speak fluently four languages (Italian, French, English and Russian) and I have two houses in this little village of the largely unknown West Coast of Sardinia, one of them is a B&B.

Two years ago I bought a small olive grove not far from the village, I had the construction permit to transform what used to be a tool deposit and is now a little house in a garden of Eden !

Besides the olive grove, there is a Mediterranean garden with rare flowers and plants, an orchard and a vegetable garden, all organic.

You can either live at the farm, where there is electricity and hot water, one bedroom and two showers, and a kitchen, or if you prefer to stay in the village, I can offer you an ensuite with shower room in my B&B, and access to the lounge and my kitchen, but you will have to manage the shuttle. I have permanent wifi access in the houses, no internet at the farm.

During time off, you can go to the beach wich is at 10 km from the farm, 13 km from the village. There are buses a few times a day. You can also go trekking in the surrounding woods, or visit some gorgeous archeological site with the mysterious ancient "nuraghe"

Thanks Paola for the opportunity to be with her in the same company. Her life journey arouse a genuine interest and admiration. For me, in particular, the period when she was in Russia. Paola has many great friends with whom you will certainly meet. She is an excellent host!

Even though this was our first workaway, I have no doubts that we were really really lucky to have found Paola and have the possibility to help her in Cuglieri.
Initially we planned to stay 2 weeks but in the end we stayed 1 month with Paola. She's a very interesting and strong woman with so many crazy stories to tell from all over the world! We… read more had a lot of fun talking to her at lunch and also with her friends in occasional dinners. Besides that, she's always wanting to teach and really cares about the quality of the experience the workawayers have. This means that she's not the kind of host which is only searching for a cheap workforce.
Oristano, the region were Cuglieri is located, is very beautiful, even though not usually in Sardinia's touristic highlights. There are some great beaches, mountains and rock climbing areas. There's not so much to do in Cuglieri but for those who are looking for silence and peace is a perfect place.
Regarding the accommodation, is was just perfect and nearly luxurious. In the first two weeks we stayed at her house in the city. It's a big and recently renovated house in the center of Cuglieri, fully equipped with all kitchen accessories you can imagine, all the 4 rooms are spacious, the bed is very comfortable and she also provides good sheets and towels. As Paola was staying in her house in the farm and there were no guests in the house we had the full house only for us, which was amazing. As it was getting cold, in the 3rd week Paola moved from the farm to the city and stayed with us in the house. In our 4th and last week, after a suddenly change in plans and a crazy 2-days-trip by car to France, we stayed at Paola's friend apartment in the center of Paris (Her friend is the most amazing and kind person in the world).
Regarding the work, it was very diversified and we learned a lot of new things. Usually Paola asks between 4 and 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. We chose to work in the mornings 'cause we wanted to have free afternoon to explore the rock climbing spots around there, but it's possible to choosenthe afternoons too. Every day Paola cooked lunch for us in the farm. Her little farm is quite and beautiful. We felt so good during our work time over there. In the first full week we worked opening the recently collected almonds with a hammer. It's was repetitive but also meditative.
In the second week we worked some days cleaning her beautiful garden and some days cleaning the gallons which would be used to store the olive oil. We also helped to collect the olives (there was a professional team hired by Paola but as we were interested in learning everything about olive oil, she let us help them and it was so cool!), we visit the Cuglieri's cold press system (frantoio), where the extra virgin oil is made and finally we put all the oil in the gallons.
In the 3rd week we bottled up half of the oil produced and put the labels in the bottles which should be carried to the sales in Paris. Than we put everything in the car and left. After a crazy trip we arrived in Paris and organized one-day sale there which was very fun! We met a lot of interesting people over there.
In conclusion, this one month we stayed with Paola had a great value for us in terms of knowledge (specially about olive oil - we are almost experts now!), new experiences and adventures! Ah, we forgot to mention that she left one of her cars with us, which we used to go and come back from the farm and also to explore the island on weekends and free afternoons! It was so kind! Thank you a lot for hosting us, Paola!

The magnificent nature of Sardinia! The farm of Paola is situated amongst a multitude of olive trees overlooking the sea.
