I stayed for a little less than a week but I had an enjoyable time. Sally is a very busy gal! I loved getting to help out in her new shop. I also spent a lot of time picking lemons and avos, taking care of the ducks, cleaning and whipper snipping among other things. Her cat Syd is the best (and loved to join me for morning yoga), and her glass

There were times I wished that instructions had been a bit clearer as I sometimes did things differently than she wanted, but overall, if you get the chance to stay with Sally, take it!Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.

Sally and her place is amazing!
If you’re ever have the chance to work and stay with her, don’t think twice. It is physical work but you‘ll never be bored. I personally learned a lot about nature, gardening and artwork while staying with her. I loved the delicious homegrown Guavas, Avocados and Bananas, as well as releasing Sally’s cute ducks in

Watching Sally working in the glassblowing studio was inspiring, especially because that’s something one doesn’t get to see everyday.
We had a great delicious dinner together with Sally’s friends, good conversations and drum music.

We stayed at Sally’s place for most of March, 2018, nearly a month. This was more of a house-sit type of experience for us because Sally was there only a few days. Sally is a sociable and friendly host. with a sense of humour. While she was there, Sally offered us an opportunity to watch her glass blowing but, sadly, we had to miss out since we
… read more had an appointment elsewhere that day.
We had our own transport and, although it is theoretically possible to hitchhike, Sally’s small farm is about 8kms from Billinudgel (closest post office, shop, pub, Indian restaurant, etc.) and about 4kms from Main Arm (just a small general store). Beautiful Brunswick Heads (swimming, fishing, kayaking, great cafés) is perhaps 15 mins drive away; Ocean Shores (closest supermarket) about 12 mins; and Byron Bay about 30 mins. Mullimbimby, the closest town with all services, is about 15mins drive and It's all gonna be so much easier if you have wheels. Mt Jerusalem and other national parks in the region are wonderful spots for walking and bird watching while the bird watching from Sally’s verandah is actually pretty good too.
Visitors might want to know that March and April are the wettest months of the year in this part of NSW so you need to be armed to the teeth with wellies (gumboots), brollies and a solid rain jacket! It's very humid and muddy. It's also very beautiful and an excellent location from which to enjoy the whole Byron hinterland.
We spent a lot of time mowing grass. We watered the garden, fed the cat, the ducks and chicks, and herded ducks to and from their pond every day. We also did a helluva lot of housework in preparation for some paying houseguests arriving as we were leaving.
The house and property will benefit from all the help any Workawayer can offer Sally – it's a big project for one person. You’ll be welcomed with enthusiasm and your efforts will be really appreciated.Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.

It was our first work away experience and we had a great time at Sally’s farm. We had lots of fun herding the ducks and taking care of the chicks. We worked hard for a couple hours a day and had lots of time to hang out and do our own thing. By hitch hiking we were able to go to the beach whenever we wanted and meet lots of local Aussi’s along the

Bring us back to Rainbow River any day! What a time we had with Sal, and Syd (our furry pal) and all the beautiful folks and friends we were so welcomed by. Sal brought us into her home with open arms. We had a unique workaway experience, learning lots each day, not only about land maintenance and tools and growing food and upcycling windows and

And how to fight the council. We worked hard and were rewarded plenty. We had an absolutely beautiful, wholesome time and Rainbow River and The Pocket, the whole Byron hinterland, are very much so a part of us, penetrated in our souls. In Sally we have a friend. And we'll be back to drum beneath the moon some day soon. (Sorry Sal, just five months late...)Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.

WOW!!! what a great couple, what a great team. Jonny and Katie were the best workawayers ever! They worked hard and were clean and respectful, making the whole experience an absolute pleasure. Sally made my australian experience.
Located in a beautiful green Byron Bay area (about 30-40 min drive from the city), she is running her glass art business (one of the most delicate and original stuff I've ever seen btw). In addition she owns a pretty huge property, which is going to turn into a sustainable farm. Gardening was therefore my core
… read more job. I mowed grass, trenched, cut bush and smaller trees, fed ducks, watered plants... I loved that. Genuinely. Naturally with time some odd tasks like painting, house cleaning and general maintenance appeared. You'll be asked for 25hrs a week, but you can do some extra, if you like:wink:.
If you travel without own vehicle, you should keep in mind, that it is quite easy to hitchhike around (the nearest beach is 15-20 mins far), but it takes some time to get somewhere, you may be too tired or too hot and the traffic is slow in the area, especially after 7ish pm.
So as I said, the place is pretty hidden, but I didn't feel lonely not even once. For couple reasons: 1st physical work=early bed , 2nd Sally was there (plus her great vibes), 3rd Sally had a lot of visitors (her friends are just lovely).
Concerning accommodation, it will depend on how many volunteers are there at the same time. There's one spare room with queen bed and you can also sleep in a tent or possibly on a couch in the living room. There's one cat, mostly indoor (I mention it just in case you are allergic).
Sally is a great cook and provides you with lunch and dinner. If you eat breakfast, you should probably bring your own granola or stuff you like (rather ask her in advance).
I loved being a part of Sally's life for a while. She is a beautiful soul, admirable person, good friend and we had great time together, sweating in the yard, dancing, drumming...
I can almost guarantee that if you don't mind doing some physical work outside, you'll totally fall for the place and laid back lifestyle of the area. Just keep in mind, it's not Byron town itself:wink:Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.
