  We're a couple of Australians who moved to NZ in 2019 and have been creating a unique home and garden from a run down state house on an overgrown hillside. We're located in town, close to the Huatoki walkway and a bus route.
  Richard is a retired paramedic and the handyman of the house, while Helen works part time at the local hospital and does the garden.
  We’re looking for some keen gardeners (individuals or couples) to come and help us over the NZ summer and into autumn, starting the 3rd week of November. The garden is really steep, so please be prepared for lots of stairs!
  As well as the usual tasks like pruning, weeding and planting, we have some landscaping to do, eg. establishing some new beds, putting in steps and handrails, edging garden beds and building a garden room. Help with puttying up leadlight panels would also be very much appreciated.
  New Plymouth is a great place to come for summer. If you’re into surfing, tramping, concerts, or just walking on the beach or relaxing with a book, you’ll find it here. Over summer the city puts on the Festival of Lights, with lots of live music events, and hosts the international music festival Womad.
  Accommodation is in a cabin connected with the house via a sunroom, which has a fridge, kettle, sink, microwave and double bed. Our volunteers will have exclusive use of the downstairs bathroom and access to it all the time.
  Vegetarian meals provided; helpers also welcome to share our kitchen for cooking anything they particularly like.
  Our helpers must be animal lovers as our mini schnauzer and tonkinese cat are part of the family.
  There are two periods when we’ll need a house sitter to stay in the house while we’re overseas: the first half of March and the month of May. For these periods, it would be ideal to have someone arrive a few days before we leave so they can get to know the pets and their routines.

  There are plenty of cultural and musical activities going on in New Plymouth

  Help us continue to establish the garden (horticultural and landscaping tasks); painting and carpentry for garden room; putty leadlight panels (opportunity to learn more if this is a skill that interests you).
  For the housesitting periods, feed pets and make sure they are in at night, take dog for occasional walk. Collect post, put out rubbish bins. If you feel like it, put out some seeds for the birds that visit the garden.

  Taranaki is known for its natural beauty and outdoor activities, particularly surfing and tramping. There are plenty of cultural activities and events over the warmer months.

  Elfin (5 años)

  Elfin is a real little character. He's a Tonkinese (Burmese x Siamese) and he loves people.

  

  Lulu (11 años)

  Lulu is a sweet, undemanding little dog. She's a mini schnauzer who likes small walks now and then or just spending time curled up in her comfy bed. She's ten years old, so not particularly energetic.
