Frederique was very kind and hospitable. I had a great stay for 4 nights at her place in the historical city of Arles. The meals she prepared were fresh and delicious and very healthy as well. Great encounter! Melina has been really helpful and it was very nice to live with her. I stayed three weeks at Frédérique's place helping her out, cleaning and tidying her house, and doing gardening. The amount of trust that she deposited in me left me astonished. Frédérique is an artist, a woman with a big heart, and a big smile, always with contagious energy, and on the move, she likes to seize life. She, and Soufian made me feel
… read more extremely welcome in her artistic house. During my stay, ex-volunteers surprised her with a visit, this pretty much speaks for itself if you're in doubt about contacting her to volunteer at her place.
Working hours are more than fair, Frédérique will explain to you what to do and leave you to work on your own, which is excellent if you are a person that can, and like to have independence while working. I wish I would have been more useful during my stay since she needed a volunteer with another set of skills. Nonetheless, she was always very kind to me and gave me free time to play music outside, show me places to visit, and helped me out when I had to leave since there was a massive strike in France that was complicating my traveling. Thanks to her advice and directions, I was also able to visit places that Gauguin and Van Gogh painted during their stay in Arles, some of those paintings where favorites of mine when I was younger, and to be able to see these places in real life it was a dream come true for me. Nothing of that would have happened if it wasn't for her.

Simone is like a little sun. Very helpful, kind, attentive. As he tells it in his own feedback, he stayed here 4 months instead of 2 weeks previously scheduled... That means verry simply that we had a wonderful time in the house with him.

He helped also a lot when I was preparing with an association our first "Nuit de la Poésie" in Arles - technical missions with the show management, holding a bar...
He speaks good english and french.
We had great conversations, about art of course but also about life : he is clever and curious about a lot of things. He is welcome back here when he wants!
Simone est un petit soleil! Efficace, attentionné, gentil. Ainsi qu'il le raconte dans son commentaire, il est resté ici 4 mois au lieu des 2 semaines initialement prévues. C'est dire que nous avons passé des super moments avec lui dans la maison. Il a travaillé au jardin (planter, nettoyer, arroser...), m'a aidé à entretenir la maison (qui a besoin de beaucoup de petits ajustements), a accroché des tableaux aux murs...
Sa présence a aussi été très utile quand j'ai participé à l'organisation de notre première Nuit de la Poésie à Arles. Il a aidé les techniciens et la régie, a tenu un bar...
Son français et son anglais sont excellents.
Nous avons partagé des belles conversations, à propos d'art bien sûr mais aussi à propos de la vie : il est intelligent et curieux de plein de choses . Il est bienvenu ici dès qu'il le désire!

What could I say about this experience at Fridou's place?
I planned to stay 2 weeks - it was considered to be just a little stop in my France tour - and I stayed 4 months... This says it all. A life changing experience.
Frédérique's place is amazing: a big, artful (and heartful) house with a nice little garden. The location is just perfect: 10
… read more minutes by walk from the city center of Arles, which radically offers you both its historical Roman past and the most contemporary arts&culture world. A true, unique pearl in Provence.
About the tasks: they're easy to do, varied and mostly concern the maintenance of the house.
During my stay I took care of the garden (planting seeds and plants, watering); I painted a window; I helped Frédérique with the groceries shopping in the local market; I cleaned her swimming pool and tried to maintain it alive (sigh!); I helped displaying works of art on a wall; I put a mosquito net.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to accomplish more important and complex jobs that Fridou really needs on the inside of her house (i.e. in the bathroom).
Frédérique est géniale: she's a writer, a poet, a serious thinker, an unoffical French teacher, a wonderful cook, a wine amatrice, an art collectioner, a supporter of natural well-being, an open-minded person and much much more.
She likes to talk and just be with people (her house is often crowded by friends, visitors and tourists).
But...
When the night is falling, music is on and people start to get around, Fridou puts the "party mode" on; and then you can see her dancing like hell and enjoying the atmosphere better than a 20 ys-older.
Without doubts I recommend a stay at her place.
I created so many memories there...
I found my second family, and any word would just banalize my experience there.

I had an amazing time staying with Frédérique. She's a very warm and generous host and I very quickly felt at home in her beautiful house.
As I don't have carpentry skills most of my tasks centred around tidying and organising in the house and garden but I would hardly call it work, I enjoyed it very much.

Arles is a beautiful town to visit with great markets, museums, shops and pretty streets to explore. Frédérique was very welcoming and invited me along to the events and parties she was attending so I really got to see what life in Arles is like, not just the tourist side.
Another great thing about this Workaway is the food! Frédérique is a great cook and uses the incredible produce of the region to create very tasty, healthy and nutritious meals. You'll eat well here and leave feeling much healthier!
