At first I wasn't planning on hosting volunteers this year because there isn't much work to do at my house right now, but when I read his profile I thought Gregory was an interesting person worth getting to know. He is a calm, funny and sensitive guy, mature and a good worker and it was a pleasure to share a week with him. He's into poetry,
… read more theater and music, so it was easy to connect with him because they are things that interest me too. He has been my third volunteer from Poland and with his presence he has confirmed to me that the Poles are great people :) Thank you for everything Gregory, I wish you a happy life.

I spent one week with Jose. We made an appointment a month before or so. The communication was very good. On my first day Jose showed me the tasks and on the following days I worked mostly by myself, at my own pace. It was a garden work. During the weekend we worked together, constructing a shelter for tools. I enjoyed it. Jose is a very open,
… read more fair and funny guy. We shared our meals and drinks and had many good conversations. I feel we got to know each other pretty well.
I had my own room. It was comfortable and cozy. The house itself is very beautiful, with paintings on the walls inside, a terrace and a nice garden. There are a lot of musical instruments. Jose is a musician and has a good sense of art.
I had plenty of time to do my own stuff, go for trips or to the ocean seaside. San Juan is a quiet little town, but it’s close to bigger towns like Icod or Puerto de la Cruz.

Wow! What a magical workaway stay. I was so taken aback by the beauty of Jose's house, his village and his lifestyle. It was even better than I ever imagined, and I was made to feel very welcome. … read more potatoes we planted have started to sprout!
I spent a lot of time with the cats, in the garden and at the local rock pool. I made a video for Jose and his bandmates which was so fun (I recommend a music jam with him anytime!), I made food from the garden and I also met a previous workawayer there who became a good friend and we did some travelling together after.
This is probably one of the best workaway experiences you can have - a beautiful soul like Jose, a lot of privacy in your own room / studio, opportunities to learn, lovely nature, animals and friends. I spent two weeks at Jose's house. My task was to paint a wall art in the living room. I finished it a couple of days before my departure so had time to make something extra. Finally, I covered almost the whole wall with my illustration :D I felt great about that job. Jose took care of everything that was needed and put no pressure. I could follow
… read more my flow. In general, I felt so great in his place! He's an easy-going person with many amazing stories, warm energy, and an open heart to help others. I not only had a chance to do something creative but I also got an opportunity to learn Spanish, try local, traditional Canarian food, and participate in a jam session with Jose's friends which was one of the best experiences in my life! We also had many deep conversations and for me, it was inspiring to get to know Jose's way of living ;)
To sum it up, I found a place full of friendly people, warmth, and healthy, "muy tranquilo" flow! I loved it and already miss you, guys!

It was awesome to participate in some jam sessions with his friends, getting to know some amazing neighbours, practicing my Spanish and getting a chance to travel around the island.
Helping in the garden and in the house is a pure pleasure, not mentioning two lovely cats that share some chilled coffee time in the sun with us.
I'm pretty sure we'll meet again and that I'll come back to stay with Jose in San Juan by the ocean.
