Let me start by saying Theo and Doug are extremely nice! I cannot stress this enough, they were very friendly and easy going people. But unfortunately the reality of this workaway is very different from the photos and other reviews. The accommodation is awful. We were expected to stay in a shed / garage that is cold, damp and drafty. The kitchen /
… read more common area is the house garage, and it smells like rotten milk mixed with fish all the time! The floors and surfaces were dirty. The microwave had flies coming out of it. The furniture was stained and uncomfortable. The kitchen equipment was chipped and peeling.
However, the work is very manageable, so that's a plus! But it's not really a cultural exchange as such, you are made to feel like their employees. (Which we have not experienced with other workaways). They will also try and get you to stay for at least a month and want someone long term, which is strange as we hadn't even met them, so wouldn't know if we were a good fit!? Just a note there's no public transport, so you need you own car to stay here. There is not that much to see or do in the area. I'd stay away from this workaway, it was an overall unpleasant experience.Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

What a lovely couple! They fitted in so well, were always cheerful and willing and if they werent sure on something, they asked us what to do. Quiet, polite, hardworking and Lena is an excellent cook! Her cakes were a delight. They were very responsible looking after everything when we went away and Arne did his best to tame our neurotic chickens.

If you want to know what easy going means, visit Theo and Doug. They were our first workaway experience and we couldn't have asked for a better host.
We arrived earlier than planned due to a problem with our car, but Theo managed to find us a place to stay even though they were fully booked. Theo is really generous as she invited all her woofers

They both gave us good advice on what to do in Kerikeri. The tasks are adapted to our abilities and really easy. We always felt safe and welcome on their beautiful property. When Theo and Doug went on vacation we had a great time taking care of the alpacas, horses, chickens and ducks. The dogs, Honey and Tory, enlightened us. We had a great time and will definitely stay in touch!
Initially Livia and Freddy asked to come as workaways but we asked them instead, to be dog sitters for us while we went away for 12 days. They arrived and were given a huge laborious manual on how to look after our two precious pooches and immediately I knew that everything would be fine by the way they went through all the instructions

What more could you want. We were so lucky to have them come and stay and hope that they will return before they leave New Zealand. They are a charming young couple and I am more than happy to recommend them and wish them well on their adventure.
Theo and Doug were very welcoming and accommodating. We were there to look after their two lovely dogs which we enjoyed. The house, animals, and grounds were lovely. Theo was always great at communicating quickly and was very helpful.

This is the perfect place to start a workaway experience. Theo and Doug are super welcoming hosts and helping you in every need. The property is big, beautiful and there is always something to do. The main work is gardening or some little helps in the household. The work is easy to handle and also a bit fun. Theo and Doug are always aware and make

After the work you have time to explore the area or play with the lovely dogs Honey and Turi :) The alpacas are super cute to watch but there is not really some work with the animals. Kitchen, bathroom and the common area are located in the garage of their house and you share it with other workawayers. In the kitchen is everything you need to cook or even bake a bread! We have been here four weeks without a car. Its doable but the walk to town for example takes about an hour and its steep also with bikes ;) With a car its much easier to come around because there is no public transport but if you’re into hitchhiking this is also an option!
If Theo or Doug have to go to the city they always give you a lift if you need to. There are also a few thing to see near by. You can stroll to a waterfall in 30 minutes or take a bath in a beautiful waterhole. We stayed there over Christmas and Theos birthday. It was really nice to get to know some of their friends and have a get together. Overall it was a perfect first workaway for us and if you have a car its gonna be even better because you can explore the area more.

What a brilliant first workaway experience! Theo and Doug are very generous people and will look after you during your stay. Listen to their local recommendations for where to walk, swim, eat, visit and where to hitchhike from... they've got all the local goss!
The help is not difficult and is honestly very enjoyable, especially if there's
… read more company to work alongside (the hosts, the dogs, or other workawayers!). The tasks are varied but almost always involves gardening or some kind or house tasks. Little to no alpaca involvement as they're quite self sufficient and don't require much daily care. I didn't mind as I didn't come for the alpacas specifically, but some may be disappointed if that's what you're expecting. There may be more opportunity to help with them later in the year (sheering etc)?
The location is fine without transport if you are adventurous and prepared to walk, bike and hitchhike. But having a car would definitely unlock much more to see and do, so if you're staying for 2 weeks I'd highly suggest getting a car. Walking places is doable but difficult, with a 6 minute drive into town taking well over an hour on foot (and up a huge hill!). You can rent a car from nearby Kerikeri airport but beware! The rental companies at the airport always assume you are on the arriving flights (even if you tell them you're not) .. and will not turn up if that flight is delayed/cancelled! Be aware when booking.
Must-sees in the area are: the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Russell (for the local history), Matauri Bay (beach), Puketi Forest (impressive kauri trees), the old packhouse weekend market (fresh produce and locally made crafts), Charlie's Rock (swimming), Kerikeri river walk,

No job was too hard or too difficult and we really appreciated learning from their experiences and knowledge. We wish them all the best in the future and

Gaia was great! Very easy going, hard working and generally got stuck in and fitted in. Most importantly, Honey, our very discerning dog adored her! Would recommend her to anyone and would welcome her back anytime. Thanks!

Theo and Douglas were very kind and helpful guests! The place is very quiet, close to the Bay of Islands and to many waterfalls. The work mostly was cleaning the garden, a few hours in the morning. Thank you for this experience!
