For winter 2017/2018 we are still searching for someone who is interested in helping mainly indoor at the guesthouse.
Of course you can also spend time with our huskies, but your main duties would be at the guesthouse. This means helping with cleaning and laundry as well as with kitchen tasks such as baking and serving dinner.
A small family-run company which is located in the middle of a forest area about 5 km outside the Ivalo village and about 15 km from Ivalo airport. In spring 2011 we opened the guesthouse which is located in the same courtyard where our family (father, mother and three sons) is living. Just beside the guesthouse lies also our Alaskan husky farm with about 140 sled dogs. The husky farm has been on this place already since 1988. We offer guests cozy accommodation, Finnish-Lappish homemade food and personal service in an unique environment.
Personal service and positive cozy atmosphere are the key words in our guesthouse as well as during the husky safaris. Our guests shall feel that they are warmly welcome whenever communicating with our team. This applies also for our volunteers who are an important part of the team.
If you are looking for volunteer work in a special place with various tasks you have found the right place! But consider that the work with huskies has to be done in every weather – even if the temperature drops to -30°C and more! However, we are happy to get volunteers to help at the guesthouse as well, so you can even wish for mainly indoor tasks - our guesthouse is warm and cozy :)! Do also notice that during the winter season work days can be up to 10 hours long.
We have not got volunteers for a long time yet, however, our experience so far has taught us that if You are a vegetarian or a vegan, our place is not the correct one for You! Making food for the dogs as well as feeding them has proved to be too difficult for vegetarians and vegans. Dogs do eat meat!!
Please also notice that our farm and guesthouse are located in the forest with no next door neighbours. People coming from cities easily say that we are "in the middle of nowhere". If you are not in balance with yourself, it might be too isolated for you.
If you are still interested please take a look at the calendar to see when we can offer you volunteer work. Your application should include background information about yourself, your working experience and your motivation to help us and to become part of the team. Also a good photo of You, not from a beautiful landscape with you as a minor detail, is appreciated. We have a trial period of 3 days so that both parties can see if the team play will work.

We offer volunteer work against food and accommodation. There are things to do both with the huskies and the farm as well as in the guesthouse depending on where the help is needed.
Tasks at the husky farm: taking care of huskies, feeding, cleaning the farm, training the dogs, assisting with husky safaris, etc.
Tasks in the guesthouse: cleaning the rooms, laundry, breakfast & dinner service, doing the dishes, snow work (cleaning of snow), bringing wood for the fireplace, helping with equipment rental.
We prefer volunteers who can help us for a longer period of time (in the very busy winter season preferably 3 months). Minimum stay is 1 month.
Finnish, English, German, Our clients are 99,5% foreigners so Finnish language is not needed.
In a small simple cabin in the courtyard. Toilets, showers, sauna and a free Wi-Fi access can be used in the guesthouse (100 meters away). You will either eat in the guesthouse or get the ingredients to prepare your meals yourself.
The airport in Ivalo and the country's key north-south European Route E75 bring summer and winter tourists who are looking for pure and uncrowded Lappish nature or who are on their way to Nordkapp (North Cape).
There are several shops in the village of Ivalo providing everything you may need. In Ivalo you also find restaurants and pub.
Ivalo belongs to Inari which is Finland's largest, sparsely populated municipality and the center of Sami culture. The Sami museum Siida in the village of Inari is a popular tourist attraction.
Another nearby place for free time activities is Saariselkä, a popular tourist destination south of Ivalo providing activities such as skiing, hiking and a spa. Saariselkä belongs also to the Inari municipality and is just beside Urho Kekkonen National Park. Especially in summer time even Lemmenjoki National Park offers great opportunities to explore the arctic nature and also to learn about gold panning.
