Hi, I'm Maureen

I enjoy living simply and I am passionate about nature, and active in the reserve that is opposite my home. I love to travel and hitchhike and meet other travellers and hear about their adventures. I work nearly full-time with children in a biodiversity programme as well as hosting a podcast called Rewilding in Action. I have a cute and cuddly cat, and often a flatmate.

I welcome help in my urban nature friendly (rewilding) garden, some house maintenance and tidying please.

Enjoy Dunedin with its historic buildings, lovely beaches and walks.

Depending on the time of year - pruning, weeding, making kindling. Reestablishing organic vegetable beds. Some general home maintenance and gardening skills appreciated. Possibly some help to restore native vegetation at local reserve. I might have a few small building projects if you are keen.

4-5 hours of help appreciated per day and two days off after 5 days.

I addition, I ask that you assist with cooking or doing dishes in addition to your hours. This is just part of sharing a home.

Acomodação
Own room in suburban house. Bunk bed. Bedding and towels provided.

Ingredients for food provided mostly basic vegetarian ingredients eg oats for breakfast, rice, beans, lentils, eggs, cheese, bread, potatoes, vegetables and fruit. Some days we can cook together, some days you will cook for yourself. I can provide simple recipes if needed. If there's anything you particularly crave, please let me know, we can probably make it!

I don't own a car but I am very close to a bus route.

Before I confirm dates for your stay, I ask that we talk on the phone - WhatsApp works well!

Maho is a lovely person; caring, mature, humble and kind. She's also very proactively helpful, doing dishes galore, often insisting. She worked very well on all her tasks, I was very happy with her progress. I was sad to see Maho leave and I wish her all the best with her goals.

I stayed with Maureen in April and what a wonderful experience it was! She is an amazing woman and she does many different things in her day to day. She and her daughter Michaela fed me well, all the food was delicious, thank you very much! Her Spanish is very good, and she also knows a lot about Mexico. I really had a great stay with them.

It was my first experience as Workaway, Maureen and Alex are very kind people, they received me very well and I learned how to live in a more sustainable way. I did some gardening and Maureen took me a couple of days to help her at the school with the environmental education class. We talk in spanish some times too.
