Our purpose in traveling and exploring the outdoors is to better understand people and the diversity of cultures around the world! We are passionate about connecting with others, learning how different communities live, and appreciating the traditions, food, music, and art that shape their identities. Being outside and experiencing new places help us build meaningful relationships and gain a deeper respect for the many ways people live and interact with the world. We are constantly inspired by people who take action to improve the world. We feel that it is a responsibility to contribute the skills and resources we have to support others and help protect the future of the land we all depend on. This is why we feel passionately about stepping outside of our own environment through traveling and learning from as many people and diverse life experiences as we can.

We are very easy going individuals and it does not take much for us to be happy! We would love to help in any way we can!

EDUCATION
I am passionate about serving underprivileged communities and using the privilege I have to uplift and amplify voices that are often overlooked. This passion led me to study Sociology at University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. During my time in the program, I had the opportunity to study diverse communities and explore localized solutions to complex social problems. I gained experience identifying social issues and conducting research using both qualitative and quantitative methods, including interviews and data analysis. I also worked with large datasets using statistical software such as Stata, learning how to interpret data and apply research findings toward developing sustainable, long-term solutions.

WORK EXPERIENCE
I have worked in a variety of roles primarily within the hospitality, tourism, and community outreach sectors. During college, I worked at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County in the nutrition department, where I helped ensure that children and families across Utah County had access to nutritious after-school meals. I worked there during the outbreak of COVID-19, when food insecurity was at an all-time high. During this time, I helped problem-solve ways to continue reaching children and their families after schools shut down, adapting our food distribution efforts to meet urgent community needs.

After graduating and relocating to Hawaiʻi, I worked for a zipline company as an Operations Specialist. In this role, I ensured that guests had a safe and enjoyable experience while also providing educational information about Hawaiian culture and the surrounding environment. I also managed reservations and scheduling through booking software, helping coordinate tours and resolve guest inquiries and logistical issues.

Additionally, for three summers I worked at a remote fishing lodge in Gustavus, Alaska. In this role, I was responsible for many aspects of the guest experience, including planning fishing trips and excursions, processing and packaging guests’ fish, maintaining lodge grounds and accommodations, and serving in a fine dining setting. This position required strong adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to providing high-quality service in a remote environment.

TRAVEL EXPERIENCE
My partner and I are drawn to unconventional travel experiences that allow us to connect with places beyond their most visited attractions. Rather than focusing only on major sights, we enjoy experiencing the everyday culture, heritage, and rhythms of the communities we visit. We also seek out outdoor adventures wherever we travel, as exploring landscapes on foot or by bike helps us develop a deeper appreciation for the environments and people who call them home. Some of my most meaningful experiences have come from backpacking trips along the Nā Pali Coast on Kauaʻi and through Haleakalā on Maui, where immersing myself in these landscapes fostered a stronger connection to Hawaiʻi’s natural ecosystems.

While traveling in Japan, I intentionally kept my plans open in order to experience the country more organically. One day I rented a bicycle and rode through a small town, discovering daily life in a way that felt far more meaningful than following a strict itinerary. A moment that has stayed with me occurred when I was walking back to my lodging in the rain and a woman crossed the street simply to hand me her umbrella, an act of kindness that deeply reflected the generosity I experienced throughout the country. I have also had the opportunity to travel to Switzerland, where I was constantly amazed by the dramatic mountain landscapes, waterfalls, and charming alpine towns. While in Europe, I also traveled through France and England, where I especially enjoyed biking through the countryside and visiting historical sites along the way.

OTHER VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
I am an actively involved member of my community on Oʻahu and have consistently volunteered with local nonprofit organizations over the past three years. I have worked with the Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation, supporting farm work and participating in beach cleanups through their Plastic Free Hawaiʻi program.

I have also consistently volunteered with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, where I worked alongside community members to remove invasive plant species and restore native ecosystems by replanting culturally significant plants such as wetland Kalo.

In addition, for the past year I have volunteered at KLK farm in Kahuku one to two times per week, helping with farming, gardening, and landscaping. This experience has given me the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of land stewardship and sustainable agricultural practices.

Tom:

EDUCATION
Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Cultural Sustainability from Brigham Young University–Hawaii (2022–2026). Degree is complemented by minors in Supply Chain Operations & Analytics and Health and Human Performance, providing a well-rounded academic foundation that combines cultural insight with strong operational and analytical skills.

WORK EXPERIENCE
I bring hands-on experience working collaboratively in outdoor recreation, hospitality, logistics, and agricultural settings. As an Outdoor Recreation Guide at ClimbWorks Keana Farms, I work closely with team members and guests to ensure safety while delivering engaging cultural experiences. At Glacier Bay Country Inn in remote Alaska, I enhanced the guest experience by ensuring smooth coordination of daily logistics, supported seafood processing efficiency, and assisted with maintaining over 10 acres of grounds and landscaping. My full-time service with the LDS Church strengthened my ability to mentor and work effectively with diverse teams. At Gunstock Ranch on Oahu, Hawaii I worked as a ranch hand performing a wide variety of labor intensive tasks that are common on any farm/ranch such as routine maintenance, daily landscaping, and a variety of construction projects.

TRAVEL EXPERIENCE
Together my wife and I have been to various parts of Europe, all around the United States and the Hawaiian Islands. Over the course of our travels we have found that we enjoy traveling in ways that allow us to truly experience the culture and daily life of the places we visit. We are most interested in learning local customs, meeting people, and understanding how communities live and interact with their environment. Rather than just seeing popular attractions, we prefer experiences that connect us with local traditions, food, language, and ways of life. Travel for us is an opportunity to build meaningful connections, broaden my perspective, and gain a deeper appreciation for different cultures.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
Outside of formal work experience I have had many volunteer opportunities. Most recently my wife and have began volunteering at two local farms in Hawaii for the past year or so. Our desire is to learn about the permaculture techniques and what it takes to successfully and sustainable grow produce year round. We have developed a deeper appreciation for the land and the effort that it takes to grow food that we often take for granted. These volunteer experiences have also taught us of the importance of living sustainably and that every action and decision we make has an effect on the natural world around us.

We have also had the opportunity over the past few years to volunteer for a local non-profit, the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, by participating in multiple beach clean ups.

Chloe and I are both easy going individuals who do not require much to be happy and content. We love to have new experiences and meet new people. We love being outside whether its working in the garden, fishing, surfing, hiking, diving; we enjoy living an active and healthy lifestyle.
