I am a retired science teacher with some international teaching experience (Guam and the Philippines). My intent is to begin a vagabond (see Rolf Potts) travel around the world for my retirement. I have 3 grown kids who I love dearly. My interests include travel, gardening, hiking, nature, and soccer. I am open to meeting amazing people and having new experiences. I have volunteered on farms in New Zealand, Texas, and Vermont. Even tried to start an organic farm in South Dakota in the '90s. Also have spent some time living in intentional communities which I found most rewarding. I want to travel sustainably and have a positive impact on the world.

Quais são suas habilidades?
I have 25 years of science teaching experience with a Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction. Five of those years were teaching overseas in Guam and the Philippines. I was a homeowner in Florida for 19 years, so I have some basic home repair skills but spent most of the time maintaining a huge backyard garden and trying to get the local city council to allow backyard chickens.. My other skill includes coaching soccer for over fifteen years.
At an intentional community in Washington, I was in charge of composting and recycling the community waste. Made an attempt at starting an organic farm in the 90s. Recently in 2018, I hiked the Camino de Santiago in Spain.

We highly recommend John. He helped in the garden and did a great job water blasting. We trusted John to housesit and pet.sit for us while we went out of town for the weekend. We wish John all the best on his travels around the world.

My stay was delightful. Justine went out of her way to show me such cool places. I enjoyed taking care of the chicken and cat. Did some gardening which was so good for my soul. Thanks for good memories in Rotorua.

Such a delightful and peaceful stay with Gerlinde in Honeymoon Valley. The 10 days I spent there was an amazing experience. Gerlinde was the perfect host and and awesome cook. John was awesome to have around. Very easily fitting into routines, and happy to do a variety of jobs. One of the main jobs was turning big piles of branches into fire wood, and sorting, and stacking... he managed to finish it, besides pulling out loads of invasive weeds and turning over my big potatoes planting area. After two years of not hosting any workaway, it was so wonderful to have John with us!. He was clear with communication and very easy to work with. He was up early and showed a lot of initiative in being able to see what needed to get done and doing it (picking up dog poop in the yard, raking leaves or cleaning up the garden). My stay with Jennifer and Kent was awesome. They were quite flexible with my schedule and very accomodating. They are amazing cooks and had delicious meals. I enjoyed my stay immensely as we got along great and would definitely come back. I'm grateful for the experience, especially working with their brick sidewalk.
