Hi! My name is Maddie and this is my first time on Workaway! I am a recent college graduate hoping to do some traveling and gain some new experiences during my gap year. I love meeting new people and hearing about other people's stories. I am a pretty extroverted person, so making new connections with people is a big priority of mine.

My hobbies include hiking, pottery, and reading. Really doing anything outdoors is my ideal way to spend the day. I have a lot of experience working with kids, I was a nanny for two kids the past two summers and have volunteered in daycares and worked as a camp counselor. I really enjoy spending time with kids and coming up with games/activities to keep them engaged and entertained. I'm also a big animal lover (especially dogs)!

I am hoping to gain more proficiency in Spanish through this experience. I have taken Spanish courses my whole life, so have the basics down but would really love to gain more fluency!

I have a lot of experience with child care. I was a full-time nanny for two summers for two little kids and have babysat kids all throughout high school and college. I have also worked at a summer camp for the past couple of summers, and have absolutely loved the energy and happiness that the kids bring! I have volunteered at daycares and in children's hospitals throughout college as well, so am very comfortable with kids and enjoy spending time with them.

I am also currently a nursing assistant, which has taught me a lot about caring for others and putting other's needs before my own. It has also taught me a lot about working with others and navigating the needs of other people.

I'm a pretty outgoing person and love being around new people. I enjoy a good adventure and spend a lot of my time outdoors. I'm from the Midwest, so I enjoy the cold and warm weather :)

Maddie is truly one of a kind. She stayed with us for two wonderful months, and there was an instant click from the moment she walked in the door. Some people just fit, and with Maddie, everything felt natural from the start.

Wow what an incredible experience and family! This was my first time doing Workaway, so I was very nervous and unsure what to expect going into it. Safe to say Michelle, Chris and the kiddos surpassed all of my expectations. They immediately made me feel so welcome and like I was a part of the family. From game nights to dinner convos to afternoon… read more coffees, they made me feel so at home and cared about during my time there. The house was so cozy and seemed to always be filled with music (lots of Noah Kahan :)), giggles, dancing, reading, crafting and just so much joy. The town is also so beautiful and the train station was close by so it made traveling around very easy.

Michelle and Chris were such great hosts and genuinely just such caring people. They went out of their way many times to give me recommendations for places to go around Switzerland and made trail routes around town for me to check out in my free time. They were even so kind to route me to a local waterfall with an incredible cold plunge area :)) It really felt like they wanted me to get the most out of the experience and were willing to help make sure that happened. They were also very helpful whenever I had questions about tasks around the house and made sure I had everything I needed. We had lots of laughs, thoughtful convos and competitive game nights, all of which I am missing so so much.

And the kids! Aymon, Ayron and Ayla were amazing to be around. I have never met kids who loved music as much as they did and it was the best thing ever. They just brought such a joy and lightheartedness to the day. The boys were very helpful around the house and super kind and respectful. They also loved trying new things which was so fun. We learned cross stitching together during my time there and it became such a great hobby. :) And Ayla is JUST the sweetest, most adventurous two year old ever. She was so fun to spend time with and just loves her people. We did lots of reading, flashcards, playing in the sandbox, listening to music and coloring, all of which she was super enthusiastic about. She also loves helping out (and is an expert dish dryer). :)

In regards to expectations, everything was thoroughly explained and the tasks were clear. Michelle and Chris were very organized so it made it easy to pick up and they were always around to ask questions. The days consisted of cooking, cleaning and hanging with the kids, and it was all very enjoyable. I really appreciated their focus on healthy, sustainable eating and learned a lot while I was there. The recipes were also all so yummy and I brought many of them back home to share with my family :)

This family and experience was the best thing I could have hoped for. I am missing you all so much and am so grateful to have met you. If you have the chance to do this Workaway, I highly recommend! You will LOVE it!!
