I'm a 27-year-old writer and singer-songwriter from New York, and a graduate of Barnard College. I'm endlessly inspired by the earth and all it gives us. I love in-depth conversations and learning about new things, and as a traveler, I'm very easygoing and open to new experiences.

I am also a freelance writer and editor, and I often write about music, art, nature, and climate change. I'm also passionate about climate activism, spirituality, and the power of stories.

Michael's place is a gem in this universe. I was in awe of it from the moment I got there-it's located in the magical rolling hills of Umbria, Italy, a villa that Michael converted himself that is certainly enchanted.

Life here is different, magical--it's a constantly changing community of artists and nature-lovers and wise and creative people… read more who care about the world, pioneered by Michael's spirit and effulgent musical talent. He is an amazingly thoughtful, enlightened being whose wisdom and encouragement I'll always take with me, and what he has done--creating a place where artists and caring people can congregate and absorb good energy and meditate and get their hands in the soil, reconnecting with what's true--is such a gift to this world.

My first week, I worked in the garden and stayed outside in a yurt (though there are many beds inside the house, but I loved the chance to hear the sounds of nature at night!). The work is only two hours per day, and during the second week I paid for lessons with Michael, who was so gracious, talented, and dedicated to supporting my music and provided encouragement and wisdom I'll take with me for the rest of my life.

All the food is vegan and much of it is home-grown. This is how life should be, a shared and communal experience that is conscious and in tune with the rhythms of the earth. Life here is an art form, a slow-moving, abundant and wonderful experience of living in harmony. I don't think you'll find a place like here anywhere else in the world. There's always music, there's always brilliance, and every day we watched the sun set from the porch, which is shaded by a trellis covered in roses. There is the most beautiful grand piano, cellos, guitars, drums...and the landscape and people themselves were musical, too. Everything here was a song. It's an escape, an experience of opening your mind, and ultimately a place of music. We would come together and sing Leonard Cohen songs sometimes; Michael would pick up a cello when I was playing the piano, playing with such grace...the afternoons were long and languid, discussions about poetry and the environment mixed with stretches of silence, just absorbing the vibrations of the landscape and the people...

I can't express how grateful I am that the universe brought me here! I would often look around not believing where I was, in the hills of Italy, playing guitar and singing with kind and wonderful strangers in such a natural paradise. There's something about the spirit of this place that's impossible to describe in words. Thank you for everything.

How can I describe my time with Thomas? All I can say is I feel that a force much larger than me led me here, and my time in this place place will always be in my heart.

This was my first Workaway. I stayed for 10 days (extending my original length of stay and I wish I could've stayed longer!) and I felt more than comfortable as a solo female… read more traveler. Thomas's house is a beautiful, mystical oasis of peace and reflection in a gorgeous, quaint village in France that sparkles with magic energy and natural wonders. It is full from the roof to the floor of books and sacred objects, and inhabited by a lovely gold-eyed cat named Bysshe (after Shelley, of course). If you are a scholar, an artist, anyone interested in magic, religion, philosophy, esoterica, peacemaking, and integrative studies, anyone interested in delving into the mysteries of thought and divinity and willing to think way outside the box, then this experience will be more than immensely rewarding for you.

Thomas himself is an incredible human being with a vast dream that has the potential to save the world. His generosity and kindness towards me was unparalleled, and he is truly an enlightened being. He is one of the most considerate, brilliant people I know, and I feel so lucky that time and space planted me in a dimension where I could go and have this experience.

We started each day with a meditation and read wisdom from various thinkers and peacemakers from across history, and worked on supporting Thomas's foundation dedicated to world peace in the afternoons, and then were able to play music together or work on creative projects at night. It was basically heaven for me, with constant and deep discussions about magic, philosophy and comparative studies.

Thomas's knowledge is vast as the ocean and his ability to compare religions and disciplines and to find the similarities between them is stunning. He is a true genius, the scope and expansiveness of his writing was so inspiring, and he taught me so much about the world and about finding peace and light in the darkest places in such a short time. This was a lesson in empathy, an crash course in the way that all faiths and humans are really united at the core.

This was an experience that changed my life in many ways, and I will treasure the wisdom and memories from this magical place forever, hopefully channeling them always.

I will definitely be back. Until then, looking forward to working for the cause in New York. :)
