Hey to anyone who's reading this :) I'm Clara. I'm 20 years old and from Berlin, Germany. I've lived here nearly all my life, but ever since I was a little girl I've dreamt of travelling the world. I am German-American and grew up bilingual. I'm new to workaway, but I find the concept amazing!

I would describe myself as incredibly curious, creative, open, joyful, independent, outgoing, adaptable and heart-centered. I'm drawn to connection, meaningful conversations and learning from the people around me. I love my family and the close circle of friends that I have and I'm always excited to meet new people!
My intention is to be  authentic and to let my inner child live freely. I also love being a safe space for  people, where they can feel comfortable and free to be who they truly are. As much as I enjoy talking, I'm also a  keen listener. I love taking care of others. I'll  make us tea, cook some yummy food, and we'll just have a heartfelt conversation. :)

When I was sixteen I spent a year abroad in California and gained some insight into a different culture. This experience is very valuable to me, because it taught me so much about myself and expanded the way I see the world. Whoever has lived in a different country for a while understands this on a deeper level. In German we say "Reisen bildet" which means: travel broadens the mind- and I truly believe that. Traveling is something I want to do as much as I can in my life.

As a young teen I used to be drawn to cities and  shopping  on vacation and I wasn't interested in hiking or "nature activities" at all. This has COMPLETELY changed.
Now I would much rather spend my vacation in nature- breathing in fresh air, swimming, hiking, looking at the sky and just being outside.
My grandparents have a big garden with fresh organic vegetables and fruit. Now where I have gotten older I have come to appreciate this SO MUCH, because it is truly a blessing.
Helping my family in the garden is something I find grounding and deeply wholesome. I don't mind getting my hands dirty!

Since moving out at 18, I've learned to be independent and take care of myself. I graduated from Gymnasium (high school)  in 2024 and afterwards visited my family in California for a few weeks in the summer. Back in Berlin I spent some time going out and exploring my own city (especially the nature bits) with my bicycle. I also went for walks pretty much every day. I began to journal and discovered my passion for writing. In autumn, my aunt took me to a wild herbs course and we  went foraging for mushrooms in the forest- I absolutely loved that! In December I participated in a project choir. I love music and singing. During the winter months  I had a very reflective and spiritual period where I felt deeply connected to myself and everything around me. Journaling and doing art were a big part of that and  "all you need is love" really resonated with me on a deep level haha.

In the early spring I started doing small jobs for events and began driving lessons. In early June I passed my test and I'm still super happy to be able to drive now! I also helped my aunt in the garden where we had lots of beautiful berries and cherries. At the end of June, I started working as a waitress on boats offering city or lake tours all around Berlin. I have been working there ever since. The captain and crew gave me the nickname "Clara Sonnenschein" (Clara sunshine) which I really love. My job is seasonal and ends in October.

I've been in Berlin for so long, and now I want to get out of the city! It's a unique place with many things I love, but lately I've been feeling like I'm missing something. I don't know exactly what it is, but the city can sometimes feel limiting- surrounded by gray buildings and streets, crowded busses and trains, and people rushing through their routines. It can feel impersonal, with so many strangers in one space. Living here, it's easy to lose touch with nature's rhythm and with our own instincts. I find myself longing for more space, fresh air, and a sense of community that come from smaller more connected neighborhoods. I also crave more peace- a chance to step away from the city noise and reconnect with nature.

People sometimes ask me what I want to do with my life, expecting me to name a clear career plan or field of study- something that sounds "realistic" and "serious". Since I had good grades, many assume I should go to university and follow a "proper" route. But I don't see life that way- I want to live, learn and grow in a way that feels true to me.
I've realized  I don't fit neatly into one specific study path, and even though I could go to university, I feel this is not the time for me to sit down and study. There will always be time to settle later, but right now feels like the time to move, explore and experience life while I'm still free and unbound. I know others may find it risky to not have a solid structure or plan, but I choose to follow my own path, instead of the one the system has already laid out. I want to live freely, guided by curiosity and inspiration.

I am still at the beginning of my journey and I don't know what lies ahead for me. I want to get to know myself and I want to get to know other places and people all around the globe. I don't mind going out in the world like this on my own. I know I will meet people along the way and this will expand my comfort-zone. Workaway has many cool offers and I would be open to try out all kinds of volunteering options.
I hope this text wasn't all over the place and you got a good glimpse into who I am. I'm sure we can have a more personal conversation and get to know each other better.
I look forward to having you be part of this adventure! :)
