Hello Everyone! My Name is Vernon and I’m from the US; Brooklyn, New York to be exact.

I am currently traveling throughout South East Asia and trying to meet new people, have new experiences, and have fun stories to tell. While doing this I am also working on a way to move out of the US. It’s time to move on to the next wave of life.

More about me, I am a Comedian and Actor, so my personality is very out going and energetic when I am In these modes of trying to make people laugh. Being a comedian brings a sort of understanding, patience, and analyzation that I continue to practice in my everyday life outside of the stage. And I feel this is a great reason to add myself was a workawayer.

For a while now I’ve been interested in volunteering and it’s been hard to do in New York and now that I have time I know will excel at this type of things. I always wanted to help kids whether it be advice or teaching English. I have a some nieces and nephews and I am always on them about reading and schooling and letting them know I am here for them whenever they need.

I’ve been in the entertainment field for a long time. Outside of being an actor I have been a PA for music video for an independent music artist. My job was to get the kids hype and ready for on camera work. I have also been writing and co-editing and writing(currently working on my own series)

Music has also been another passion of mine. When I was younger I use to be in a metal band for quite a few years and did some small local tours. I also enjoy going dancing, going to museums, random exploring walks.

In just starting my travel 4 years ago, I have been to Morocco, Portugal, Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands, and now the Philippines. I can’t wait to add more to this list.

As I have a limited knowledge of other languages as I’ve grown up in the states, I am definitely interested in acquiring knowledge on other languages. It’s a great way to learn about people and show you care about them.

I do have a small passion in photography. I have been taking photos for a couple of year now and only in the last year I have been in two art shows. I am hoping to make it more as a I travel and gain a lot of content to expose to the world.

Hosting Vernon (from New York) and Laura (from Italy) was a truly special experience that felt like a beautiful reunion with parts of the world we love. Laura, from near Venice, has lived in… read more Portugal, Australia, Ireland and now Lisbon, vividly reminded us of our unforgettable travels through Rome (Dec 2015 & April-May 2018), Venice (May 2018 & Feb 2019), Lisbon (April 2018), Australia (Melbourne May 2012; Darwin May 2013; Sydney, Gold Coast, Brisbane Nov 2019) and Dublin Ireland (July 2019). And Vernon, a true New Yorker, brought back fantastic memories of our summer in NYC (8-14 August 2023). It struck me then: while I haven't traveled much this year, the world has been coming to us through amazing Workawayers like them, creating a profound geographic and historical connection right in our backyard.

They are the epitome of what makes Workaway special: hardworking, genuinely friendly, and wonderfully focused individuals who become fast friends.

From the moment they arrived, they embraced every part of the experience. Their main project was beautifying our backyard with a brick walkway and creating a kitchen garden under the langsat tree (our North Borneo local grapes). This was tough, physical labor, but they tackled it with incredible dedication and a positive attitude. It was a joy to see my vision come to life through their hard work and the results are fantastic!

But their contributions went far beyond construction. Our time together was a delicious cultural exchange in the kitchen! They generously shared the secret to making an incredible salmon pasta (a recipe I will definitely be making again!), and we had a blast spending a whole day swapping culinary skills—I showed them local dishes, Vernon taught me his family's mac and cheese, and we even mastered making pizza together for our farewell party.

They were also exceptionally kind and helpful towards the other Workawayers, helping to prepare for the arrival of Lucas and Violette from France and making them feel immediately welcome.

Our farewell party was a perfect summary of their stay: full of laughter, delicious homemade pizza, and unforgettable karaoke. Laura's beautiful singing and dancing and Vernon's entertaining song choices had everyone smiling until the early hours. They brought so much joy and energy into our home.

Vernon and Laura are trustworthy, capable, and bring a fantastic energy to any project. We shared not just work, but conversations about history, culture, and life. I truly consider them friends and wholeheartedly recommend them to any host. We cannot wait to welcome them back one day and are already looking forward to our next pizza and karaoke night!
