Hei alle sammen!
I am an Italian teacher, I’m 37, and I’m new to Workaway. The reason I’m here is that I want to live abroad, start a new life from scratch, and build a new version of myself.
But first a bit of background.
I was born in southern Italy, where I studied modern languages in high school (English, French, and German). Then I moved to the north to study at the oldest university in the Western world. I graduated in Bologna in Classical Languages and Literature. During those years, I worked as a waiter and a bartender to become independent.
I moved to Rome because I wanted to spend some time living in the capital, so I chose to complete my Master’s Degree in Modern Philology right in the heart of Italy.
Later, I lived in Turin for work reasons: I started working as a substitute teacher in high schools. I managed to save as much as possible and I travelled to Thailand, Greece, France and Norway.
The impact with Norwegian culture and landscapes touched me deeply: I began studying the language and imagining myself teaching Italian in that very country. I returned in June to attend a language course (A2 level) and my plan is to go back as soon as possible, maybe through Workaway.
What kind of guest I am?
I like living in a clean and tidy environment, so I’m the perfect guest if you need someone to manage a house, a hostel, or a hotel. I am very good at cooking and I’d like to learn new recipes. In return, I can teach you how to cook Italian dishes.
I enjoy photography, I’ve been shooting as an amateur for several years, and I’ve just completed a graphic design course, so I know how to use Adobe softwares (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) as well as Canva. This is great if you have a business and need someone to promote it on social media or create web content.
I’m definitely good at organizing: it doesn’t matter what, where, or when. I’ve handled moves, people, and events on my own, and I can give you a hand.
I love working out so I will easily join you and motivate you to stay disciplined about your health and wellbeing. I enjoy going to the theater, I love movies and museums, festivals and of course I love reading and writing.
What about my mood?
I’m a cheerful person who loves being around people and learning new things. I’m very curious, and I really enjoy listening to stories and making others feel comfortable with me. I know how to be on my own because I left my home at 19. I’ve lived and worked in different places, I’m comfortable with the bare essentials, and I like being very independent.
