Hi! I’m Joris Vliegenthart, a curious and energetic traveler with a passion for connecting with people and exploring new cultures. What truly motivates me is the opportunity to learn and grow through meaningful experiences, whether it’s working on a sustainable project, sharing meals, or helping out with creative tasks.

As a professional chef, I love the joy that food brings to people. Cooking is not just a skill for me it’s a way to connect, share stories, and learn about different traditions. I’m always excited to cook with others, experiment with local ingredients, or simply prepare a hearty meal for the team.

I’m also happiest when I’m outdoors. Hiking through breathtaking landscapes or helping in gardens gives me a sense of purpose and peace. Working with my hands, whether planting seeds or fixing things, is something I find deeply rewarding.

I believe in being adaptable, staying positive, and giving my best in everything I do. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds and contributing to their projects gives me inspiration and happiness.

My Skills and Experience:
I bring a diverse set of skills that I’m excited to share and apply to new projects.

Cooking and Hospitality:
As a professional chef with years of experience, I have a strong background in preparing delicious meals and managing kitchen operations. I enjoy cooking a variety of cuisines, working with fresh, local ingredients, and creating meals that bring people together. I’m happy to cook for large groups, teach cooking techniques, or collaborate on exciting culinary projects.

Gardening and Hands-On Work:
I have experience with gardening, taking care of plants, and general maintenance tasks. From planting and watering to maintaining a productive garden, I enjoy contributing to green, sustainable spaces. I’m also skilled in basic DIY tasks and working with tools to help with small repairs or improvements.

Creative Skills:
In addition to my culinary background, I have experience in videography and editing, which could be helpful if your project includes documenting progress or creating content.

Volunteer Experience:
I’ve had the privilege of volunteering in Sulangai, a small village in the mountains of Bali, where I taught children aged 6–12 weekly. These lessons focused on IT and coding, taught in both Bahasa Indonesia and English. It was incredibly rewarding to inspire their curiosity and help them develop valuable technical skills.

In Kintamani, Bali, I volunteered at a school with students aged 12–18. My role involved motivating the students and helping them improve their English speaking abilities. I initiated a unique project using Duolingo, where I set up challenges to make learning fun, interactive, and goal-oriented.

Adaptability and Teamwork:
I’m quick to adapt to new environments and enjoy working as part of a team. I thrive on collaboration, open communication, and learning from others. Whether it’s leading a project or supporting the team, I bring a positive, can-do attitude.

I’m always eager to contribute my skills in meaningful ways and to learn new ones along the way.

In my free time, I enjoy a variety of activities that help me connect with both nature and people. I love reading, going for hikes in the great outdoors, and spending time at the beach to relax. Meditation is an important practice for me to stay grounded. Every Sunday, I attend church, which is an integral part of my life. I am passionate about meeting new people from different cultures and backgrounds, and I enjoy exchanging experiences and learning from others.

I also love playing board games, which is a fun way to bond with others, and I have a keen interest in motorcycling. I believe in staying active and open-minded, and I’m always eager to explore new experiences and challenges.
