Welcome to Pitzelsbergerhof! 🌱
Hello and thank you for considering our farm for your Workaway adventure!
Pitzelsbergerhof, located in the picturesque region of Mostviertel, Austria, was once a traditional dairy and arable farm. Over the years, it has transformed into a self-sufficient living project that values sustainability, simplicity, and community.
What We Offer:
Self-Sufficiency: We grow our own fruits, vegetables, and produce renewable energy with photovoltaics. We also keep two ewes, maintain beehives, keep a few chickens, and enjoy the companionship of three cats.
Living Spaces: Our farm offers shared and private living areas. Workawayers have access to their own toilet, shower, washing room, and two cozy bedrooms (a single and a double). There are also a 45m² common room, lovingly nicknamed "the cinema," featuring a video projector and surround sound system for cozy evenings as well as a sauna in the barn.
Nature and Tranquility: The farm is close to Pyhra, 14 km from St. Pölten (train station), and 60 km from Vienna (22min train). You'll find breathtaking landscapes, cycling paths, hiking trails, and even a community swimming pool nearby.
Local Culture: Our neighbors keep dairy cows and alpacas, and the area is rich in rural traditions. Castle and wooden Church within a walk, and wayside shrines in every village. While people speak German, albeit with a challenging dialect, most will understand English,
A Typical Day on the Farm:
Your tasks will vary with the seasons, including:
Caring for the animals: feeding, mucking out and maintaining their pastures.
Gardening: watering vegetables, harvesting fruits (apples, pears, berries, zucchini, tomatoes), and preserving them (e.g., drying or cooking).
Wood tasks: chopping, stacking, and splitting firewood for heating, or using timber for building projects like fences, stairs, and animal housing.
Household Help: cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the shared spaces. Garden keeping
During the quieter days, there’s plenty of time for leisure activities, exploring the forest, foraging for mushrooms, or simply enjoying the serene countryside with a walk.
About Me:
I’m Alois, your host. I work as a consulting engineer for hydropower and occasionally travel for my job. I’m also pursuing a Ph.D. and have a deep love for the outdoors and sustainable living. Before settling on the family farm, I explored over 50 countries, often as a trainee, worker, or curious tourist.
When I’m home, I love cooking, sharing stories, and working alongside Workawayers. I value open communication, so please share your expectations and reasons for joining Workaway – there’s no wrong answer, and I want to ensure we both benefit from our shared time here!
Why Choose Pitzelsbergerhof?
If you’re looking for an immersive, hands-on experience in self-sufficient farming, a chance to connect with nature, and an opportunity to learn about sustainable living, this is the place for you. Whether it’s your first Workaway or you’re a seasoned traveler, I’ll do my best to make your stay memorable and rewarding.
I look forward to meeting you and creating a meaningful experience together. Let me know why you’re interested in staying with us, and let’s see how we can make the most of our time! 😊Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

We live in a unique setting facing the start of the alps from a south-oriented hill - in our back is the capital of lower Austria (St.Pölten, 15min, train station) and Vienna is just 45min (22min train ride) away. You can learn about beekeeping, animal care (sheep, chicken, bees), gardening, fruit tree maintenance, tree production, Kontiki-active coal, Terra Preta, cooking, how to keep supplies, build barns, dry walling, tree care, hay making, sell products, prepare wood for heating, compost, ...
