Hello! My name is Georgia, I am 29 years old and from Bristol in the UK, and I am currently on an 8-month sabbatical from work as a Children's Mental Health Practitioner. I love this work, but I need some time to reconnect with myself, have some new experiences, and explore a different pace of life. During my time off, I have spent time in Athens, volunteering for an NGO supporting refugees and asylum seekers, and have also travelled to Madagascar, where I lived for 2 years from 2019 as a teacher. I am now beginning a walking and camping trip through Europe, starting in Malta. I am keen to volunteer and have some workaway experiences along the way, as I find this the best way to meet new people, learn about an area and other cultures, and learn new things about myself. I work with children at home and I really enjoy their company, energy and ideas. At home, I have an allotment where I grow my vegetables and flowers, and I am keen to learn more about farming and permaculture. I am an active person and like to be outside a lot of the time, walking, swimming and exploring, but I especially love new food and trying new things! I am happy to take on a range of different roles, as I am just seeking to experience different ways of life, which is learnt best learned by the people who live it. I'm excited to see what workaway opportunities there are, and mainly to meet some lovely people along the way. :)

Quais são suas habilidades?

I have experience teaching English to a class of 15, 5-7-year-olds in the Basque Country, Spain. I had to plan and conduct my own lessons at a summer camp, keeping the activities fun and engaging. I volunteered for a year at a refugee homework group in Glasgow, helping children who had only very recently arrived in the U.K, helping them with their English when homework was complete. I also spent a few years teaching and acting as a 'buddy' for a boy who has autism. I helped him through his English exam in secondary school and went on outings with him when he didn't feel comfortable going alone. My interaction skills have excelled through working with children, from the way I react to how I use body language to communicate. The responsibility is also immense and has helped me improve my organisational skills. Patience is key when working with children, especially when working those who speak a different language as the language barrier can sometimes be difficult, but I believe patience is an integral part of my character.
