My name is Emily; I’m 26 years old and originally from Colorado, USA. I have a degree in International Development and Social Change. I have a lot of different passions, and one of my core beliefs is that the most difficult and meaningful work is much more powerful and joyful in community! I'm grateful to have lived in community with many individuals from diverse cultural, religious, and educational backgrounds.
Education is one of my passions, and I have a range of teaching experiences.
-------> I'm a TESOL certified English teacher. I've taught in Thailand, Vietnam, the USA, and Greece with language learners of a wide variety of ages and backgrounds.
--------> I'm passionate about environmental education. I grew up camping, hiking, and tending to a backyard vegetable garden. I worked at a farm school for a summer, teaching youth about agriculture, forest ecology, and animal husbandry.
---------> I'm an aspiring student of herbalism. I worked as a manager in the medicines department of a natural foods store, educating customers about herbal remedies and nutrition.
--------> I'm a certified Scottish Dance teacher, and taught dance throughout highschool. I also love to sing, and play ukulele and piano. I am passionate about the power of arts and music for community building.
Another of my passions is qualitative research. As part of my senior thesis research, I interviewed farmers, co-op members, and Indigenous activists around New England, USA. I believe research is a powerful tool for helping NGOs and social movements to self-reflect and grow. I would be happy to offer my skills in qualitative interviewing and research to Workaway hosts.
