What can we say about Maite, If you get the opportunity to host Maite you will not be disappointed. She is smart and a quick learner, respectful and honest with her time management and takes instructions well and doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty. For an 18 year old she raised the bar for her age bracket and proved to us that she was trustworthy enough for us allow her to house sit for two nights and three days. Upon our arrival home the house was spotless and our dog Missy had a new besty. Maite: We would recommend you to any potential future hosts and wish you a safe and happy journey through out Aotearoa. Next time you come to Motueka you have a place to stay with us as whanau❤️❤️❤️

We so enjoyed our time with Lorraine, Jack, their kids and extended family who all gave us such a warm welcome that we quickly felt part of the team and settled in really well. Their hospitality is very warm with delicious shared meals and interesting discussions, coffee in the mornings from Jack's parents' home and invites to join them on outings. It felt like a fun, communal atmosphere with the other like-minded volunteers. Jack and Lorraine were conscientious in their allocation of tasks, where everyone was given tasks that suited their abilities and avoided too much repetition. We appreciated how they took time to show us how to do something and were out, getting sweaty in the field with us! It's clear they are passionate about their project and alternative living at large, having created a thoughtful and open environment. We'd love to return one day to see how things have progressed!

My stay in the village of Marcos was amazing! It's like a huge garden with lots of trees, plants and many fruits. The house where the volunteers live has one huge room with mattresses and a big area in front with kind of a terrace and the kitchen. There is also a shelter with the opportunity to sleep in a tent outside. The neighbourhood is close to Perequê and the beach and there's also a Waterfall around. The historic center in Vila is only a 15 mins busride from Cocaia but there are also lots of bars and restaurants to go out in Perequê. The work was very flexible and interesting. Marcos explained a lot about how to treat the plants, which fruits we can eat and how to plant new ones. He's very friendly and patient and answers all the question that I and the other volunteers had. We cut plants, planted new ones, learned how to process bamboo, constructed a base for the tent and built fences and paths with bamboo. His family is very nice and welcoming. His son is very cute and his dog Nega is so funny. She always comes to say hello! Besides the work it was also a pleasure to enjoy the time in the little village, be close to the nature, relax in the common area with the other volunteers or do a jam session with them and Marcos when it was raining outside (he has a band and there are many instruments in the house!) All in all I had an unforgettable time here in Ilhabela and I highly recommend to come here to work in the village.

I was really happy to spend this time with this lovely couple of artists. They are kind, open, and truly motivated to learn new things. Sharing this experience with them was a pleasure, and we’re still in touch, of course!

I spent three weeks at the animal shelter. The dogs are incredibly wonderful, and I am very grateful that I was able to spend time with them. The team of volunteers is super nice, and I really enjoyed working with them. When I arrived, one of them picked me up in Vila do Bispo, for which I am very grateful. She showed me everything right away so that I felt welcome and knew where everything was. I was accommodated in the large caravan. Unfortunately, it was very dirty when I arrived and I had to clean it first so that I could feel comfortable. The photos on Workaway are unfortunately not up to date and the caravans are now very old. As I was there in December/January, it was often very cold and damp in the caravan. I needed several blankets, especially at night. The other volunteers showed me everything and explained it all to me, taking a lot of time to do so. The work is easy and fun. You can also visit the dogs or take them for a walk in your free time. Communication with Karen, the host, was always friendly, and she responded quickly to calls and messages. Unfortunately, I didn't have much contact with her at the beginning. I would have liked to receive some guidance from her to make me feel welcome. I know she has a lot of responsibilities running the shelter, but it seems like she's gotten tired of the changing volunteers and doesn't want to put much energy into it anymore. This impression is also due to the dirty and old caravans. I loved working with the dogs and it wasn't easy for me to leave after three weeks. I am very grateful for the time I spent there and think about the wonderful dogs every day.

It was wonderful to have Dina in our home for a while and only wished she could have stayed longer. We had the painters and decorators in the week or so she was here and had asked her to help us clear out the rooms to be painted and then put everything back. She is such a skilled personal organizer that she did not only do that, but did virtually the whole house! She takes the hard work and emotional anguish out of the cleaning and tidying, redistributing, recycling and re-using the "stuff" that one accumulates through life. She is empathetic and astute, with a sharp eye for what can be improved without being at all invasive and it really did make the whole thing a lot easier than we could have imagined. She is also a great cook and made us some delicious meals and yummy sweets. And is brilliant company, with so many stories to tell from her life and travels. A real jewel! Thank you Dina!

We had a great time volunteering here. Everyone in the staff was simply amazing, very friendly and always trying their best to make us feel comfortable and provide everything we needed. Every single small problem we had was addressed almost immediately. For potential volunteers we do warn you that you will need to be open to live as the local people (hot water is rare in Indonesia and you will see geckos and occasionally insects in the house) but if you are open to it we guarantee you will be received with open arms and get an unique opportunity to get to know Indonesia through the eyes of the staff and students at the centers.

Irelys is an intelligent friendly and positive thinking young lady. She is very diligent and gave all her power to the jobs she was ordered. She stayed four weeks in my house and besides she was the perfect company. I enjoyed also the time with her we spent besides the work because she is very sociable, spontaneous, and easygoing. I can recommend Irelys as a strong person, who is always willing to be a good help. Most time, she had to prepare the wood for the oven outside in the cold and she did never complain. Best wishes

Maike and Daniel were only able to stay with us for 5 days but we enjoyed every one of them. They quickly fitted in to the routines of the house and were diligent, honest and hard working. They had no problem doing a variety of jobs, mastering the quad bike, paint brush and weed eater. They were respectful of our living situation and made a great job of leaving their accomodation clean and tidy when they left. They also cooked a delicious traditional German meal to share. I’m sure they will enjoy the rest of their adventures in Aotearoa and you won’t be disappointed if you have the opportunity to host them. Nga mihi nui, Steve

We’re a bit late with our feedback. After this experience, we moved back to the city and got caught up in the busy life. Still, our time with Mike and Elisa was far more than just a house-sitting experience. It was something that helped us grow, both physically and spiritually. It wasn’t easy..it was challenging and pushed us far outside our comfort zone. If you tend to romanticize off-grid living, forget the Instagram worthy images you usually see and I don’t mean that in a negative way, quite the opposite. This is real life, deep in the woods. As for Michael and Elisa, there’s nothing but praise: truly amazing people, incredibly open-minded and understanding. They supported us in every possible way and always made sure we had everything we needed and wanted. We’re deeply grateful to them. And I can’t not mention their 5-year-old daughter, with whom I (Andreea) instantly clicked. I’m trying to keep this short, but beyond the daily household tasks, feeding the animals, cleaning, and the projects they trusted us with, we had the chance to discover an incredibly beautiful and mystical part of Romania. I feel like I could write so much more, but from the bottom of my heart, I recommend this kind of experience, whatever it may mean for you. We would happily return, even for shorter stays. I miss you all, especially the dogs, the cats, and the fresh milk from Auntie Livia in the village.

This was my first experience volunteering on this site. I'm so glad I had the chance to work on this farm. Everything is very simple and straightforward, with a lot of varied and interesting work, from planting to feeding the animals. The work is always varied, so it's never boring and always interesting. And after work, there's plenty of free time for yourself and socializing. There are many volunteers from different countries, so there's always someone to chat with. Plenty of food, fruit, and bread are provided, so it's hard to go hungry. Burak and Berk, thank you so much for everything! I wish your farm continued growth and prosperity! 🤝🌱🪴🌳🌈

Katrin and Josh were a real pleasure to host - lovely, helpful and hardworking. They completed all of their tasks to a high standard and we were really appreciative of the flexibility they showed when we needed it. Katrin and Josh are lovely to have around, always offering to help where they can - fitting seamlessly into our family life. We warmly recommend Katrin and Josh to other hosts!

If you are lucky enough to have Gaelle and Jean come and stay with you, you are truly blessed. They are a wonderful couple full of life and fun and their precious little dog Tiguat has a place in my heart forever. Both were good cooks but Gaelle was an exceptional cook producing lovely dishes every night for all of us to enjoy. They were both very clean and tidy in the house and left it spotless. They were with me for a month and they were a pleasure to live with. They both had an exceptional work ethic and had great ideas. They worked exceptionally hard for me, far and beyond what I would have expected. They enjoyed their work and nothing was too much trouble. Both lived a quite life like me, enjoying the walks in the area and the surrounding nature. Gaelle and Jean came into my life at a time that I needed help. They certainly gave me that. They came as Workaways and left as friends. I look forward to our paths crossing again 🤗

WOW! What an experience this was!! Robbie & Sarah were so gracious to allow me to come sooner than we originally had planned and to stay longer as well. My stay ended up being seven weeks. Every morning I would hear the house awaken upstairs with bodies hustling about quickly getting ready for the day. Some mornings I would cooking up some apple, cinnamon pancakes for the kids or maybe an egg muffin sandwich. ( Breakfast is not something you are required to do, I just enjoy cooking for others) Morning and afternoon walks around the fields out back or down to the creek were always nice with their 2 yr old yellow lab, Corey. Wellies are a must in the wet weather! I bought a used pair on FB marketplace for cheap. While everyone was gone during the day I would hang and/or fold laundry if needed, clean up the morning kitchen, sweep /vacuum the main floor and enjoyed finding a cupboard or drawer to organize. At the beginning of the week, either Sarah or Robbie and I would make up a menu plan for the week together. They would do the shopping accordingly and were always gracious to ask if there’s anything I would like. I love to cook so I cooked during the weeknights which is a big help to have supper ready when everyone arrives home from school or work. Supper typically was served at 6 PM Robbie cooked up some delicious meals on the weekend like his yummy stew. 😋 I often enjoyed a walk into Frome to look around, meander thru shops, have a coffee or tea while either people watching or starting a conversation with someone sitting nearby and getting to know a little bit about them. There are plenty of secondhand/thrift shops, coffee/ bakery shops, healthfood, grocery , a theater and plenty of restaurants all within a 20 min walk. I always found the people in Frome friendly and approachable. I even made friends with an older couple in their cul-de-sac. The Architecture was something I really enjoyed seeing. A walk to town and down cobblestone Catherine Hill was always my favorite. Frome station is about a 40 minute walk but Robbie and Sarah were always kind enough to give me a lift when I decided to venture off to Bath or Bristol for the day. Since I arrived at their home on December 2, I was there during the holiday. What a great collection of memories it was! Sarah’s brother and family came from London for the week. Putting together a big puzzle, playing games, lots of good food and plenty of laughter truly made it a memorable time I will always cherish. I have sooo many pictures! I enjoyed my time with Edith and Ewan as well teaching them a new card game, making paper, snowflakes to hang, kicking the soccer ball ⚽️ or being Edith’s New card trick demo buddy. She’s getting good! 😊 One night while their parents went out I enjoyed making homemade pizza which the kids loved! Afterwards we had just a scoop of ice cream and then making homemade buttered popcorn all while watching the sound of music. It was a lot, but it was fun and the kids had never seen the movie before, and it turned out to be a good experience for them. My bedroom downstairs had plenty of space with a bedside table, comfortable chair , desk/dresser and a window looking out to the front of the house. My bathroom just outside of my bedroom was complete with shower, toilet and sink. Sarah gave me a heater so I kept plenty warm. I was treated very well at the home and will forever cherish my time. I would definitely recommend a stay here as you will likely go away with lasting memories. Thank you Robbie, Sarah, Edith & Ewan for inviting me into your home. 🤗

I stayed with Anne for two months in the autumn and truly loved every minute of my time there. Even now, more than a month and a half after being back in Italy, I still miss that experience. The work was a real pleasure, spending time with the dogs, making sure they were fed, happy and well cared for never felt like a chore. They were such good company. The area is beautiful, perfect for the dogs and for long, varied walks surrounded by nature. Anne is a wonderful, warm and genuinely kind person. She’s very friendly, easy to get along with, and it didn’t take long before we became good friends. I felt welcome from the very beginning and at home throughout my stay. I’m very grateful for this experience and would absolutely recommend Anne as a Workaway host to anyone looking for a positive, meaningful and caring place to stay.

I truly had the best time at Samatha and Bill’s place!! They were incredibly welcoming and always there if I had any questions. While I was house-sitting, their friends and family were also around and were very supportive and helpful, which made the experience even better. I loved spending time with Biscuit and had lots of opportunities to explore the area. I’ll definitely miss her a lot:)

Nina, Tim, and Miles were a pleasure to have. Nina - who is an interior designer - helped us design the outside garden area of our new home. She also beautifully photographed my recent ceramics. Tim made huge strides in the garden and then built us a very cool stone and wood bench. Miles is quiet and full of joy. He follows Nina everywhere. They were wonderful company and we'd welcome them back anytime they'd like to be here!

I couldn’t have asked for a better first Workaway experience! I stayed with Shannon for two months and felt welcomed from the very beginning. Life off-grid, surrounded by nature and wonderful animals (dogs, chickens, ducks, and horses), was truly special. Game nights, great food, and lots of laughter made it even better. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss this experience for anything — thank you, Shannon!!

Audrey and Leo are an amazing couple of workawayers. Quiet and gentle and oh so kind. Caring and compassionate, amazing in the kitchen and in the workshop too. If you choose to host them, you get the full meal deal. They are tidy and clean and very careful. The only bad thing about hosting them, is that it will break your heart to say goodbye. All the best in your southward adventure! Henry and your farmily.
