We are a family of 4.Aude, 49 years old is a school teacher, children, Anna, Marin and Lison are 19, 14 and 9 years old.
We live in a large house with a large garden in Vieux Habitants. It is in a very quiet environment 5 minutes from a beach and 15 minutes from the city of Basse Terre. The setting is ideal for swimming at sea or in the river and hiking in the rainforest.

Nous sommes une famille de 4. Aude, 49 ans est professeur des écoles, les enfants, Anna, Marin et Lison ont 19, 14 et 9 ans.
Nous vivons dans une grande maison avec un grand jardin à Vieux Habitants. C'est dans un environnement très calme à 5 min d'une plage et 15 min de la ville de Basse Terre. Le cadre est propice à la baignade en mer ou en rivière et aux randonnées dans la forêt tropicale.

Nous avons besoin d'aide pour le jardin, pour effectuer des petits travaux, pour des cours de conversation en anglais/espagnol avec enfants et parents (high priority), selon vos envies et compétences. Nous recherchons principalement des non francophones.

We need help for the garden, to do small jobs, for conversation classes in English / Spanish with children and parents, according to your desires and skills. We rae looking for non french people.

We had a an amazing time with Eric, Aude, and their beautiful children and we will always remember it with a smile. We would highly recommend it.

The whole family was very welcoming, kind, and warm hearted and they have a good energy. We felt comfortable with them from the beginning. Even though we don't speak French, Eric, Aude, and Anna speak… read more enough English to communicate and enable some nice conversations (and also they want to learn and practise so it's good if you don't speak French!). Anna (the eldest daughter) is also learning Spanish and is keen to practise. They were always very relaxed and flexible with times and schedules which was nice and meant a stress-free stay. The children are adorable and it was lovely to share some fun moments with them such as time at the river, Lison's birthday party and their dinner party with friends, which they kindly invited us to.

We loved the accommodation, which is a little apartment/granny flat below the main house. It has everything you need and is very clean. Our favourite part was the private little terrace with its own table and chairs that look out over the garden and to the ocean where we spent many hours enjoying breakfasts, dinners, beautiful sunsets and long deep conversations about life :) It was great to have this private space for ourselves in the beautiful garden as well as being able to share with the family upstairs - a great balance.

The garden has so many surprises of tropical fruits and medicinal plants, which Aude and Eric will be happy to show you if you're interested. We found it fascinating and nice to be in a chemical free productive garden :) We had a constant supply of bananas and enjoyed making banana ice cream, banana marmalade, dried bananas, banana cake, etc!! We also loved having the fresh eggs for breakfast from the chickens!

We were also able to take a dip in the pool whenever we wanted to cool off which was always very welcome.

The work is only a few hours a day and is fairly light and enjoyable. We did some painting on the house, cleaning, gardening work, feeding animals, and studying and practising English/Spanish with the children and Eric and Aude (which isn't really work at all and it was lovely to share with them!). We usually worked in the morning and spent a few hours with the family in the evenings and then had the whole day in the middle to do what we wanted. Also, if we wanted to go on a trip Eric and Aude were very flexible to move the days/hours around etc.

Vieux Habitant is a nice little village and you can walk it from the house in about 20 minutes (take water as it's steep coming back up!). The house is on a hill so has a great view. Eric and Aude took us into Bouillant and Basse Terre when they were going for work. It's a safe, tranquil, and beautiful area. We hitch-hiked back from Plage Malendure very easily one day and apparently it's quite common to do so.

Overall, we would highly recommend this workaway :)

If we ever go back to Guadeloupe we would definitely stay here again.
