Mac and Angela are lovely people, with lovely animals - we were even lucky enough to tend to piglets while we were there!
The task of feeding the cows, pigs, chickens and dogs is a daily pleasure and we had plenty to keep us busy with lovely walks nearby and a great work/life balance.

These two were great fun, great company and a great help. Unfortunately, Hannah got offered a job in Queenstown so they had to leave early.

Wonderful experience with Angela and Mac. We enjoyed a lot the outdoor jobs we have done in their house, good communication and we felt at home, thank you for that!

We stay 5 days with Angela and Mac. They are really nice, and not just them, dogs and cat are friendly as well, especially socks! We were feeding the pigs, and chicken, he always came with us.
Unfortunately, we met the cyclone in those days, but we do not that much outdoor work, we turned to do some clean job in the house in big rain day.

We stayed about two weeks with Angela and Mac and it was a great time. The tasks we had to do were feeding the pigs and chickens and cook dinner. … read more are adorable and socks was our daily companion while feeding the pigs. We also met some of their friends and had a typical kiwi bbq;). We had some days off to explore Wellington and the area and Angela recommended us some great things to do. We are very thankful for our experience, especially because our ferry got cancelled and delayed on our last evening, so they let us stay one more night until we could finally catch the ferry! We stayed at Angela's and Mac's home for about a week and we enjoyed our stay!
We started every morning with feeding pigs, chickens and ducks and changing their waters. Most of the other work we did was placed also outside; gardening/weeding and fixing fences but we also cleaned some parts of the house on a wet weather. We did also some hay work;
… read more we lifted hay bolts to trucks and then unloaded them to a barn, which was a rough evening. But after hard work we got rewarded with beer and delicious dinners. Mac grilled some proper steaks a few times!
Family's dogs are great! Especially Socks stole a piece of our hearts. Socks is overly excited and happy; he always wants more and more attention and demands some belly scratchs, but we sure were always ready to give him some!
We thought that we'd work for 4-5 hours a day 5 days a week but it turned out that we worked everyday. But sure everyday wasn't a full work day and hosts were flexible to arrange us a chance to get our car inspected one forenoon. And we also did one longer work day to get one day off for a Wellington day trip. There's a 40min train from Upper Hutt.

Well, we're late posting this but...these guys were amazing. Good fun, hard working and we miss them.

Angela and Mac took us in and made us instantly feel at home. The communication was easy breazy and they made sure we were comfortable with our work before leaving us to do our thing. Manchita, Max, and Socks gave us steadfast company and we enjoyed our daily farm animal chores. Mac always kept us laughing, made sure we were making use of the spa

Angela cooked lovely meals with lots of home grown produce and meat, invited us to join her in some of her community relations as a city council woman, and shared lots of local knowledge with us. This couple were fantastic. English being their second language was no barrier. They're great cooks and know about water systems and other handy stuff like electrical wiring etc. We got so much done while they were here and has a lot of fun.

These two were just great. To have someone who loved food and prepared to cook it was an absolute godsend to us. They also knew how to light a fire and keep it going. Our main job was feeding the pigs, the cows and the sheep everyday, plus other works like weeding the garden, planting grapes, spreading compost and cleaning. During the weekends we helped Mac to build a fence stile and to move Lucky to her new pig-shed (that was hard!) where she gave birth to 5 cute piglets a few days after!
Upper hutt is also a good starting point to visit Wellington and surroundings (Putangirua Pinnacles, Cape Palliser etc.). Angela will give you good advices on how to plan your excursions.
