We (me and two friends) stayed at the farm for (unfortunately only) two weeks. We really enjoyed the time at the farm and Marieke and Afonso are wonderful hosts. Very friendly and open minded.
Our main project for the two weeks was to prepare the vegetable garden (weeding, planting, turning soil, making some constructions). Afonso always had a
… read more look that we won't get bored. We had our daily task but we were free in making our own schedule. Also walking the dogs, feeding the animals, cooking for all of us and doing house sitting were some of the task which we really liked.
In our free time we could go to beatiful beaches (they are not far from the farm) and train our surfing skills ;).
I also really enjoyed staying in the caravan which had everything you need (a own kitchen and bathroom).

Ines spent a few weeks with us but we would love that she could've satyed longer!
Ines is a very fun girl. Always carrying possitive energy and always happy to help and do what is necessary.
She worked mostly in the garden and have shown great determination, motivation and skills. However she also helped with building work, painting and the

Helping in the most beautiful area of Alentejo and Algarve with Afonso and Marieke in their organic farm and distillery is an experience I will never forget. Although I had the pleasure only two weeks, it was wonderful. I worked 4 hours a day, helping in the garden and in the second week with the distilling process. I lived in a tiny but very
… read more comfortable caravan close to the house of Afonso and Marieke. For lunch I could join them and when I was the only workawayer they invited me for very delicious dinners, too. All in all, it is a very welcoming, open and easygoing family, that taught me a lot about life and gardening and living dreams. Obrigada otra vez pelo todo! We both stayed at the farm for about two weeks. The place and the whole project was well kept and organised. It was pleasant to work there. It had a magnifficent nature, starting from forest till the sea and it´s cliffs. From the hosts we only met Afonso, and even though still quite young, he already felt like a father figure. It felt very safe
… read more and relaxing, the host was easy to comunicate with, very helpful and supportive.
Daily routine was not difficult, work was from 8.30 till 12.30 and again from 14.00 till 16.00 (almost every day full 6 hours, but on some days we had to cook dinner and it took even more) It was fun to cook, but after a while you start to run out of ideas and it becomes a task to study cook books. He allowed to express ourselfs on the sweet plates on our own time. It was also nice to go mushroom picking, too bad the neighboors steal them :) The dogs were wonderful and his son is a fun little guy.

We became part of the family for one month and fell in love with Medronho-picking and the forests around. The farm is located in a super nice are and as our stay was fully in Medronho-season, we went to different places nearby every day to pick there, which we really enjoyed. Also Afonso took us to the beach a few times after work for surfing!!
… read more And lend us wetsuits and boards. When Marieke went to yoga class, she asked us to join her and we did and really enjoyed it. So all in all with all the other workawayers and the hosts it felt like a big family. We improved our cooking skills and ate lunch and dinner all togehter on the workdays.
When you have good ideas p.e. for any furniture or other stuff you could need for the farm, you will be supported in your idea. In general, ideas of making the farmwork easier or nicer for everyone are warmly welcome and will be discussed when you share them.
